What would you like to see dropped from Dungeon?

Personally,

I don't care for Downer and if it were to leave the magazine I certainly wouldn't miss it.

However, I like everything Erik Mona has done with Dungeon and his work is the primary reason I have a subscription for the first time. If flipping past Downer is the price I have to pay to keep Erik on as Editor-in-Chief then I will gladly flip those pages.

Might make for an interesting poll to see how many people would like to see Downer go IF it meant Erik went with it. I suspect there would be a sharp decline in the detractors.

SO in closing... "GO ERIK, GO ERIK, IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY..."

I think in 10 years, people will look back on Downer the same way they look back on Wormy.

Yes, Downer's artist will get upset over some sort of trade paperback deal falling out, quit doing the strip, and drive cabs in some major city, having the occassional thread at EN World devoted to questions of his whereabouts and sanity.

Downer remains the worst thing about Dungeon magazine. Erik must be getting one hell of a deal from the creator to not have dropped it in light of the masses of negative feedback that can be found on the subject. I know we arent the end-all-be-all of opinions here at ENWORLD, but I have seen negative feedback on other boards and other people I know who read the magazine are also overwhelmingly in favor of dropping it.

On the other hand, I'm surprised to see that more people who voted dislike Mt. Zogon more than The Portent. Nice to see that there's a lot of crack being smoked in this thread.

Yeah maybe you should put it down before you O.D. :P

I think Downer is cool precisely because it's so different. I think it's a great model for a whacked out D&D setting where everyone's playing a monster from the MM.

But the monsters don't act like monsters. Illithids aren't whiny, nerdy Woody-Allen types, for instance. That works for some folks, maybe not for others.

Say, anyone know what the heck Needleman is supposed to be (race/class)?

It's interesting that this thread got started b/c Wil Save is going to be dropped, yet the vast majority of people polled would rather get rid of Downer.

Personally, I don't like any cartoons in Dungeon. Or any of the other fluff (blogs) for that matter. I also don't hate it, so whether or not it's included is rather bleh for me. As long as the space they take up is kept to a minimum (i.e. no Polyhedron hijacking).

But I would like to see Maps of Mystery come back. That was very useful to me...

I'm actually kinda bummed that Wil save is going. It was fun seeing the world of D&D geekyness through the eyes of someone famous. oh well.

I like both Dragon and Dungeon now, and I think it's because of E.M. Lets face it, anyone who loves Greyhawk AND Diet Dr. Pepper, is aces in my book.

To be more constructive - I'd like to see Piazo put a section in, either mag, about some of their 'in-house' games. I always find it interesting to read about how other gamers deal with certain problems. Maybe someone could write a column on how the staff has delt with 'Bad-apples' in their games. Anything along those lines, I think, would be interesting.

You'd change the cartoons??

With a dream choice of what to get rid of or alter in the magazine you'd like to fret over little illustrated bits of humor? Mt. Zogon takes up a sidebar and while I'm not loving Downer, it's only two pages and the art is nifty in an oddball sort of way. It's the other 100 or so pages I could do without.

As I stated in a previous thread, I've never liked Dungeon, except during that brief period when it was combined with Polyhedra. I was hoping we would get three magazines so I could dump Dungeon from my list, but they decided to dump Poly instead. Now with Wil Save gone, I've stopped collecting Dungeon. It simply does nothing for me. I haven't used a pre-fab adventure in about 15 years and certainly would never use a pregenerated campaign (though I might use a campaign world, I generally save that for licensed properties like Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, etc.).

After the initial reformatting of the two magazines by Paizo, I was under the impression Dragon was more for Players and Dungeon more for DMs. Unfortunately, I don't really feel that from reading them. Dragon has the ecologies, Magic Item lists and the like. Dungeons needs way more Worldbuilding and campaign design articles. The suggestion of a column about the "in-house" campaigns is a great one. At least then we'd see some really creative campaigns instead of yet another adventure in the world of Eberron...which I don't use. Or the Forgotten Realms that I don't use. Or...you get the picture. More general use ideas please.

I end up buying both while my players buy neither, instead of the old days when EVERYONE bought Dragon. I shall cherish my Dragon CD-ROM always... :)

As of now Dungeon is off my list and Dragon is coming close to going. What stops me from dropping it outright is that I'm a hardcore fan of the hayday of Dragon. I collected it like one collects their favorite superhero comic book. Now I'm thinking of stopping. To me that's very sad.
