At least one copy of some good stuff by a small or indie publisher, especially mini-setting books. I don't understand why some retailers buy like dozens of copies of stuff (and often don't sell even half of them) and yet won't order a wider variety. But then again, I am not a retailer and maybe I don't understand the economics or time constraints of doing something like this. :)

I would definetly say it's worth it!

Seriously though, the armoury is a great gaming store since the owners are very friendly and have a knack for relating to thier customers. Bruce - who owns the store w/ his wife Diane - kept a copy of Libras Mortis back for me when it came out because he knew I had a thing for necromancy and the undead.

One thing I really like about my local gaming store is friendly, customer oriented service. There is another local gaming store close by but it is usually dark and cloistered and I always get the feeling that I am considered an "outsider" by the locals. A friendly, open face can do wonders for business.

On that note - I know alot of hardcore gamers feel invaded when younger audiences congregate at the local gaming watering hole for the latest expansion of Yu-gi-go but if these rug-rats keep the gaming store open with thier business then more power to them. I'd rather wade through pokeman fans to get to my gaming supplies than always order them on-line. Remember - today's kiddie CCG player could be tommorrow's role player.

2) Clean, well lit, easy to shop environment for the main sales area.

Why is it that so many gaming stores seem like dimly lit warehouses with some racks for books thrown up? Are the store owners trying to imitate the underground dungeon? I can't imagine Borders or another store that mainly sells books making it difficult to read, but there they are, and it drives me crazy.

I'd just like to see more RPG stores. The store that carries the most RPG products where I live is Borders Books. Sure there are several comic book/card/minature/rpg stores, but RPG products are usually poorly stocked, they'll offer to order anything but if I wanted to order something I'd just do it myself online.

Clean well-lit sales area, organized shelves, minis in boxes and individual, intelligent sales staff who is knowledgeable about gaming, a large temperature-controlled gaming area with seperate rooms available for gaming as well, a snack and beverage counter. In short, I would like a local store to be more like the Chimera in the Appleton, WI area. Awesome store.

Actually, I would love to see a full service hobby shop with sections of a larger store divided into separate shops for multiple hobbies. Gaming, comic books, model railroading, crafts, etc. Stuff for women and children, so that us geeks can bring our families and they will have things to do as well. Clinics for all of the hobbies, including introductions to the hobby, etc.

Which one is that? Fandom?

yep. I'm a huge Fandom fan.

I mean... they even carry my books!

I've bought more games there than everywhere else combined. I picked up WHFRP1, WH40K, all the WoD games, Burning Wheel, many editions of Hero, both editions of Cyberpunk, 5 editions of Gamma World, 2 editions of Gangbusters, 2 editions of Boot Hill, Star Frontiers, Haven, Wasteworld, Cyborg Commando, MERC, Bushido, Villains & Vigilantes (twice), PsiWorld, far too many editions of D&D, Rokugan, multiple editions of Stormbringer/Elric!, Toon, Killer, multiple editions of Car Wars, Paranoia, multiple editions of Shadowrun, Battletech, Mechwarrior, K.A.B.A.L., Chivalry & Sorcery, Tunnels & Trolls, Battlelords, Sorcerer, Feng Shui, multiple editions of Call of Cthulhu, Aeon Trinity, Alternity, both editions of Top Secret... and soooo many more RPGs from that store over the years.
