What would you play?

What D&D editions would you play?

There is not a game I would not play if my friends came to me and said they wanted to play it. There are games I would not want to run but that takes a lot more effort and requires more from me.

I read the question in the opposite direction. More that you pick the game, and whatever you pick your friends will go along with, so what do you pick?

If it were my choice I'd pick about a dozen games before I even got to a version of D&D. Of the D&D games I would either go 1e to go through some of the great modules, 2e to play in some of those cool settings, or Pathfinder to enjoy an Adventure Path.

You wouldn't find me DMing OD&D, 1E or 4E. You could get me to play any of them, though I'd still be reluctant to be on the player's side of the same editions above.

What's more important is the people you're playing with, as others have said.

Now this makes me curious, Stormonu. The link in your .sig points me to a 520 page document of homebrew 4e stuff and you wouldn't DM and only reluctantly play it? What has happened?

I voted 3.5, 4e, and d20/3rd Party. Pathfinder is pure awesome, and I might not ever go back to 3.5 as a result.

I alos tried to play a 2e game last year with a group of friends. The DM promised me a role-playing adventure which turned out to be the DM throwing whatever cool monster he found in the old books just to see what they did... and had one player not played the most tricked out Elven Bladesinger, we wouldn't have won any of the fights. That, plus the terrible lack of clerical healing on the Cleric spell list really turned me off once and for all.

Despite all that fiddling to get the game where I wanted it to be, it just never clicked with me.

If I can choose what we're playing, it's going to be 4e or Star Wars Saga or Mutants & Masterminds. But I'd play almost anything if that's what a group I liked wanted to play, even if I'd grumble at least a little about pre-3e D&D.

I'd play just about anything, with three exceptions: 3.0, 4.0, and SW Saga.

3.0 because I've played too much 3.5, so my rules intuition would get in the way.
4.0 because I don't think that edition sounds fun.
SW Saga because I find some of the rules quirks really annoying. I'd give it another shot with a few house-rules though.

I'll play anything my friends want to as well. My only problem is that I'm pretty much the only one in my current group who's like that.

Also, I'd enjoy DMing/GMing pretty much any RPG including all the ones on the list.
