What's going on?

I played a couple of 3.5 adventures once where I gave the dm my 4ed mm and told him it would fix a bunch of problems. It ended up being a pretty good hybrid too. Still, at the end of the day, I felt like I was playing Naruto instead of dnd. It was fun, but not exactly immersive.

As far as non-D&D fantasy RPGs go, Green Ronin has put out the first boxed set for the Dragon Age RPG. Based on the setting for the Dragon Age: Origins console game, it's being done in an introductory RPG style. The first set covers levels 1-5 and has a Player's Guide softcover along with one for GMs.
The nostalgia factor alone is substantial. It's a lot like picking up the Basic D&D red box edition but with much higher production values.

With WotC putting Forgotten Realms and Eberron on hiatus (ie. not publishing any new FR or Eberron supplement books), Pathfinder's Golarion campaign setting has partially filled the vacuum left behind for people who want a "kitchen sink" campaign setting world, that is being fleshed out with new supplement books every month.

Once again, I see no reason why I am being ridiculed and no one here has made an attempt to engage my post with possitive feedback. What IS going on here??? I really feel as though I am at a loss here... :(

You made the horrible mistake of pointing out the obvious truth that the opinions on a site like this aren't representative of the gaming community as a whole.

You're wounding their sense of self importance :)

I liked DA:O but I kind of feel that world may not be quite deep enough for my liking when it comes to pnp. Still, I like the direction Bioware has taken with it(outside of the heinous dlc).

Pathfinder is chugging along nicely with a lot of support. They're basically the vanguard of the OGL movement at this point, and their fans are pretty dangnab loyal. ;) 4e is growing out of it's shell a bit (IMO), trying some exciting new directions in design with the PHB3, and a lot of folks are pumped about the new setting being released for 4e, the classic Dark Sun.

There's a handful of other cool stuff out there, like Trailblazer and the e20 project, kind of trying to forge ahead in their own way, but most of my knowledge is coming from D&D 4e. Which, if you didn't like it, you probably still don't like it, so there's not a lot to discuss, I suppose. ;)

Stryfe, I think that Kamakaze Midget is bang on. But seeing as you've been out of touch for a while, when you include other new RPG's like the latest edition of Warhammer, the many new Patron Projects (KQ, Rite etc) sci fi games such as Shadowrun 4E, Eclipse Phase, Dark Heresy or Rogue Trader not to mention Mouseguard, Reign, Changeling the Lost, Geist etc etc etc and you have a very vibrant gaming market where players and GM's can find exactly the product that they want to play.

If any gamer can't find a game to get excited about in todays market, then IMHO, their not trying vary hard.

LeStryfe... welcome back.

A while ago I quit posting here since I believe so called "edition wars" should be an important part of the growth of RPG design philosophy.
I will agree that discussions over the relative merits, faults, improvements, etc.. are good for the game. However 'edition wars', as they often appear in online formats, are not discussions as such and only cause anger, disagreements, and arguments. Often with personal attacks and rudeness.

I think a big reason why the opinions on sites such as this are inaccurate are ...
Hmm.. Yes. Opinions on the intrawebs tend to be wrong, more so when they conflict with my opinions. But opinions are not what discussions should be about.

So, how are things?
About the same.
Game systems are still being refined, improved, and house ruled. New players are going into the game, current players are shifting to a new game or dropping out. A wide variety of mature reasoned discussions occur in the same forums that less mature, less reasoned arguments occur.

I have yet to find a mature group of gamers that can enjoy a game, even if the mechanics are a bit screwy. Sometimes the screwy mechanics are the best part.

I know some folk in real life that solely play 4ed, but I don't care for their opinions...
I solely play... well, whatever is at the table. I like 4e and enjoy both running and playing it. It would be interesting to have you at a table, perhaps a good old school game of CP2020 to set the mood?

Nice choice for a name.

Thanks for the replies, guys! My own gaming has been going good since I thoroughly enjoy the system I created. I must admit that supplying the artwork for it was a challenge, since I was personally forced to reach a higher level of quality so my players would get excited enough to play. I guess at the end of the day my own dissatisfaction with current games has been beneficial to me. But, as they say, no man is an island! I think knowing the current state of things is important so I don't fall behind. No matter what happens in the this or the that, it is important for one to find the good in all creative works. I really appreciate this.

It's your writing style. Even though these are message boards and people can be very informal in their writing styles it still matters how you present your post and the tone and style you write in.

What IS going on here??? I really feel as though I am at a loss here... :(

The community has survived. There is some good talk of games in general and 4e, 3e and Pathfinder. For the most part the arguments have stopped but every now and again a post like your comes through and starts something. It might be done on purpose or on accident but intention of the poster is not as important as the results.

Ignoring the troll question:

I started off not liking 4e, but the Character Builder and then the Monster Builder software turned it into a very playable game, so now I like it. :)

I liked 4e initially, but started having my doubts after a few months of gameplay and a little grindy battles. But the CB and the MB programs made me realize how 4e was a great game, despite a few hiccups. I honestly think its designed with BECMI in mind + required minis.

@OP - I agree with Crothian. Its definitely your writing style. Too many similar threads have popped up, only to be shut down very quickly. You bring a lot of negativity into your presentation and I think that it will be reflected back at you.
