What's in the 3.5 PHB web enhancement?

The elf rogue has a 1d4 damage shortsword and a 1d3 damage dagger -- errata (probably cut 'n paste leftovers from the halfling entry) or a 3.5e change (shortswords and daggers really suck, or elves are Small?)?

Edit: errata; the stat block gives the shortsword its customary 1d6 damage.

The starting packages in the PHB were the iconics. These ones are a bit "weirder' - gnome paladin, dwarf bard, half-orc wizard, etc.

Ah, ok, now I see.

Nice, but a bit too wierd. Halfling Barbarians..? Oh well.

Halfling barbarians work out better than you might think. They get exceptional AC for light armor wearers (due to size and Dex bonus), and the barbarian class abilities compensate for a halfling's deficiencies in melee (low Str, low movement rate). Plus the halfling saving throw bonuses help offset the barbarian's poor Will save, and the racial skill bonuses are all in barbarian class skills. The newbie game I run has a halfling barbarian as their main tank, and he's managed just fine.
