I hear ya Reg! Kikaiderman though? Never heard of that one. I wanted a kikaider or kamen rider game!

Now we gotta combine the superhero genre mixed with mecha then we will have Kikaider, Kamen Rider, etc.

I mistakenly posted a thread asking about poly mecha... Sounds like it will be an 80s tribute.

Too bad I never much cared for that flavor of mecha instead being interested in either the brave robot (Mazinger Z, Raideen, Getter Robo) and Space Opera (Macross, Mospeada, Gundam) flavors.

As I said in that thread, I never quite found a game that captured what I liked about mecha. Oh well, here's hoping that this one at least gets close! Sounds cool though.

There are many names but it all boils down to what we people of Hawaii calls him, Kikaida.

BTW, if you're not into mecha, then why are you into Robotech (or Macross), Mospaeda, and Gundam)? They're the same ting, brah. Giant, transformable machines ... does not have to be robots or AI.

BTW, you got a list of all the Gundam episodes in chronological viewing order?

P.S. I hope the local TV station brings back Kamen Rider V3 after Kikaida 01 finish its run.

I don't know guys, Heavy Gear, Jovian Chronicles, BattleTech these are mecha games.

A big robot that turns into a semi or a volkswagen bug...not exiting. Not at all.

Transformers, Power Rangers. Yawn.

Well, the American-produced Power Rangers is impressive to the mainland US audience, but not to me. I prefer the many original versions in Japanese.

Reg, I LOVE mecha.. just not that particular genre of mecha (Voltron eg. Go Lion or the more modern brave robots)...

johnnype it might be boring to you... that's fair. Lots of mecha shows are boring actually. It's all how it was written. While Transformers wasn't always gold, I thought the idea of sentient transforming robots that evolve somewhat (as the series multiplied) pretty intriguing.

I saw the Heavy Gear animation DVD on the shelves... anyone saw this series? Any good?

Examples of mecha in various genres, as best I can recall.

Fantasy + Mecha: The Vision of Escaflowne, Magic Knights Rayearth and Aura Battler Dunbine.

(Near-)Contemporary + Mecha: The entire Patlabor franchise.

Science Fiction + Mecha: Bubblegum Crisis/Bubblegum Crash (both original and 2040), AD Police Files, Gall Force/Rhea Gall Force, The entire Gundam franchise, The entire Macross franchise, Genesis Climber Mosapeda, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, Robotech, The entire Voltron franchise (and component original Japanese TV series), Ghost in the Shell, Dominion: Tank Police, Giant Robo, Kishin Heidan, Starship Troopers (the MI suits).

As a long time fan of Heavy Gear let me put it to you this way:

It sucks seven types of ass.

Granted, it was not written with fans of the original RPG or Tac game in mind, go figure. It has a much younger target audience. It's only redeeming feature is that you can see what the gears would look like in a combat, although they seem to have endless amo and never get a scratch so perhaps it's not even good for that.

Catch a few episodes on TV before you decide to pay money for it.
