Decided to update this list, and post it here and on the Necromancer boards. This list represents just slightly less than half of the current compliment of creatures on the Creature Catalog; when I get done posting all of the monsters I have left to post, the pendulum will swing the other way.

Now, if you take a good look at what’s here, you’ll notice that most of these monsters fit at least one of these:
1. They were converted after (or just slightly before) the ToH contents list was finalized,
2. They came from a specific game world (Forgotten Realms, Ravenloft, Spelljammer, etc),
3. They have only appeared in Dragon magazine
4. There’s some other obvious reason why they didn’t make it into the Tome of Horrors.

So, if you hadn’t figured this pattern out already, this will probably give you a bit of insight into how Scott made his choices of what to put in the book. It is especially clear now that we know what is in Monster Manual II and Book of Vile Darkness. The above are, of course, not solid rules – for example, the tickler was an April Fools monster from Dragon magazine, and the belabra was a Forgotten Realms monster.

So Scott, what are you going to do? Split the monsters in half, keeping these where they are and giving the ToH creatures their own section, or just leaving things as is?

As far as a possible ToH2 goes (whoever said such a theoretical thing was going to happen?), do you think this list has enough good, strong picks to hold their own and make a book like that a good sequel to the first? Would it be wise to wait awhile, so that we can make sure to have more good conversions and new monsters for the book, before you would even want to start thinking about making another one? Or perhaps would you like to go the other way and make more "crunchy" – i.e., monster prestige classes, monster feats, mini-encounters, and other monster related materials – to pick up some of the slack?

Unless I am mistaken, Glasya is in the BoVD. So she can be scratched off the list. (I haven't received my copy yet, so I can't tell ya for sure..but I believe I heard she is in there).

i didn't buy it yet either, but i did get to take a look at it tonight. yes, she is in there, oddly enough as one of asmodeus' servants? it's not a full entry, but it does give enough information to use her in your game. i'll let you decide for yourself when you get the book, scott.

Well, I vote for moving them to their own section but keeping them on the site.

Keep in mind that the upcoming Fiend Folio will prolly take out a few more of these critters.

And, finally, yes! Yes, there are enough goodies left for a ToH2!

Trilloch... tween... obliviax... faerie fiddlers... beholder-kin... and most of all, the CARNIVOROUS FLYING SQUIRREL!!!

But yeah, I'd wait for a few more choice monsters to appear on the site first; and also, to check the sales of the ToH1.

I mucho agree with Orcus ... the ToH will be gravy ... the really good sawmill/white gravy you get on chicken fried steak or with biscuits .... mmmmmmmm

besides having those critters in hard copy will be pretty cool ... cheaper than an ink cartridge!
