What's my Ideal console you ask?

Ok, so maybe it was Sony who asked, but anyway.

I'm a member of their Gamer advisory Panel (basically I just answer questions on the periodic poll and avoid the forums they have set up for it), so the last question on the latest poll was "If you could Frankenstein a monster console, what would it be like? (Max of 250 characters.)"

My answer: "The Sega Dreacast, except popular. Oh and not so loud."

Anyway, just felt like sharing. Carry on.

p.s. Feel free to share yours.

Hmm. Interesting question. I'll try to keep it somewhat reasonable...

Things I'd shoot for:

- Built-in ethernet
- Built-in wireless controller support
- Built-in handheld support (like the GBA Player)
- Built-in SD flash memory support (sort of like this)
- 4 controller ports
- Highly efficient architecture
- Compact size
- Cool and quiet during operation
- $249.99 (or less) price point at launch

Things I could probably do without:

- CD/DVD playback support (I already more than a handful of devices that'll do it better)
- Hard drive (admittedly, custom soundtracks are moderately cool, as is downloadable content, but I've seen nothing yet that shows mass storage has revolutionized console gaming)

Things that would be cool, but will never happen:

- Official/legal emulation support of legacy systems w/o system modification (perhaps ROMs could be made available through CD/DVD packs or downloaded to flash memory cards, and accessed from a boot menu on start-up)

Of course, none of the above means squat if the games suck, but this is about hardware.

An attachment that either you can insert a memory chip to a computer (via a USB?) or connect via ethernet and lets you download extra levels/characters (basically, upgrades/mods) to the game of your choice.

You mean like Xbox Live?

This possible with all three current consoles the problem is geting companies to actually do so.
