What's the AC for the middle of a bullseye at an archery contest?

If I were holding an archery contest at a fair in the city, what would the AC of the various rings on the archery bullseye be?

Let's say there are 3 "rings" (the third being a circle) PLUS the pin-point bullseye in the center.

So . . . Outer Ring, Middle Ring, Circle, and Pin-point Bullseye dot (the one Robinhood hits) ;)

Let's say the bullseye is the size of a shield. Small object? + 4 to AC?

The target does not move. DEX = 0 . . . so -5 to AC?

What would you set the firing distance at? 200 feet? Or more? Range increment modifiers would then apply.

What would folks be using? Shortbows or Longbows in such a competition? Let's say shortbows (don't have my books in front of me; what's the range increment of a shortbow and longbow?)

Hope you can help.

Thanks. :)

There was a Dragon magaizine in the early days of 3.0 that had a Robinhood setting like thing in it, and it had rules for archery contests including the bullseye AC.

They also have rules for archery contests in CW. They cover this exactly. Even rules for splittling someone else's arrow. (You got the middle? I'll get the middle too.)

AC of 6 for a target like you are asking about, for each 5 point block, you move in a ring. So..

6-10 nicked
11-15 first ring
16-20 second ring
21-25 third ring
26+ fourth ring

If you want to split an arrow in the center ring, it has an AC of 31...

That is all out of FFG's Path of books... Funny thing was, I was reading about it last night...

Basically it's going to come down to an opposed ranged combat roll. They guy with the highest number wins.

I daresay a robin hood - where one individual hits bang on the dot, and the other splits the arrow to do the same - is going to be the outcome if two natural twenties are rolled...

Ok so if i was using a Longbow with a 100 ft Range. And i want to hit a target 200 ft away.

6-10 nicked
11-15 first ring
16-20 second ring
21-25 third ring
26+ fourth ring

If you want to split an arrow in the center ring, it has an AC of 31...

SO it would be AB - (range) => AC

what is the range penalty for a standard longbow?

*All* ranged weapons take a -2 penalty for each full range increment. The real difference between weapons in this regard is the size of the range increment. (This is all on p.114 of your PHB, by the way.)

So, for your longbow, with a 100' range increment:
- No range penalty for targets up to 99' away from you
- A -2 range penalty for targets from 100' to 199' away from you
- A -4 range penalty for targets from 200' to 299' away from you
- etc.

Thus, a target that's 200' away would impose a -4 range penalty. And that big dude standing next to you with the composite longbow would only be taking a -2 range penalty, because the range increment on his weapon is 110'.
