mine would have to be the "king of the bards" figure looks just like elvis so I painted it in a white jumpsuit with blue"suade" shoes. I think I used somthing like 5 colors on the flesh of the face alone.

another one would be the heckelmyer figure (death jester from reaper) done in green and gold stripes for the hat and red and white checks for the pants and shirt.

sorry I dont have photo to post but I'm really happy with how they turned out

for me.. it would have to be a figure of an Angel. I managed to work out how to get two different whites.. One for the wings and one for the robes.. and the face was perfect.. I managed to get blusher on the cheeks and even a little bit of colour into the eyelids..you know the little bit at the edge of the eyelid that borders the eye. the minature was just plain perfect. that minature is the reason I don't paint as much.. I sort of feel as though I reached my height of skill.. and I just don't get the same pleasure anymore.

so instead.. I have started making minatures from scratch. Getting the Perfect Minature should be a lot harder.

do you make mimis for others as well?

If so would you consider doing a human rogue with a rapier and whip? (aka anthony hopkins in the mask of zoro.

I believe that I will do them. I am currently working on three minatures at the moment. In a lot of cases it is easier to take an existing minature and convert it. (Especially Reaper minis.. they have a really good character range)

Like the Norse-like warrior I am doing.. I am going to use a GW plastic head and I have found a two-handed warhammer that I am going to use (with the gauntleted hands as well).. just cause that I have them.. and they fit.

I am having the most fun with the chain armour that the moment.

But.. I will consider doing a "swashbuckler" style minature. the clothes and how they lie will be really difficult. I reackon if I had a 2d representation it would make things easier. (in fact.. for all minatures that would be accurate.)

My last few have turned out rather niftily. They're all Reaper minis (my FLGS only really stocks Reaper and pretty much all Games Workshop - none of which I'm particularly crazy over except for LOTR, although they also have a goodly number of Clan War, Celtos, and Chainmail [though I'm not sure if they still have those]). The last three are the marilith, the gnoll warrior, and the drider. The drider turned out particularly well, it's painted like a tarantula. I try to refer to natural history books when doing minis that contain parts of real creatures to get a realistic coloration.

I *must* get a hold of some Confrontation miniatures. The wolfen and barbarian miniatures look especially phat.

I painted the hunter of darkness (as per the supplied photo card) now one of my players wants me to paint for him.

Controntation figures rock - but the scale is a bit large. I know a guy who got some of the orcs and they are really good too.

So how do you make your own miniatures? whats involved?

um.. basically.. you get a frame and then use something like Green Stuff (courtesy of GW) or another putty.. and sculpt the minature.

this site has a couple of good work throughs.

Now.. if you do make some minatures.. you will find the first one has it's problems.. and the second one is better.. and so on.. basically..a you figure out new tricks to get the look you want.

having a good pose is really important.. a dynamic pose really helps you get the feel of the character (which.. makes sculpting the minature easier)

give it a whirl.. try it.. you'll love it. really.

um... about $AU15 for the green stuff from GW.. and about $AU12 for the Reaper Basic Armatures (makes yer first ones easier)

and about 2 bucks for the tool I use.

that's all I use so far.
