D&D General What's the DC for a fighter to heal their ally with a prayer?

Is the fighter generally pious? Is divine intervention the only option? Will the character die without it? Is the Fighter giving up a turn in a dangerous combat for this (semi-literally) hail mary play? Does the God favor their cause?

I might let the DC get down to 20 if all the factors lined up, particularly if the situation was dire. Generally it would range from higher to impossible. I don't think the DC would ever be below 20, unless maybe the characters were on a mission for that God or in a place sacred to them, or there was some other comparable factor that both made it a cool story moment and an unrepeatable one.

Basically I think this would be really cool to do once, but really shouldn't be a regular part of the game. So I would be aiming for a DC that has a reasonable chance of success, but still has to be high so it feels like a just-got-by-by-the-skin-of-their-teeth situation, so that they know not to try it regularly, or else there has to be an obvious "this only works because you stand within the remote sacred grove" sort of limiting factor.

Is this god interested in prayers? In this situation, I'd allow an easy Religion check to "get the feel" of what pleases the god. You just don't ask for victory, you promise that you'll make your empire stop persecution of this god's followers or maybe you'll convert yourself and your army to your wife's god if he helps, both events having a huge historical impact . Since the fighter is asking something equally unusual as victory in battle, what is he taking an oath to do in exchange of the god's help? If he's just praying and offering nothing, his commitment sounds weak and there is very little reason for the god to intervene in this case and not in the case of every single death occurring in the world. (Barring other circumstances like the friend being a champion of the faith already).

You could allow for taking a level in cleric (to be confirmed at next level up) to mechanically support the vow of being "grateful" without any specific promise, but I feel that destroying a character's effectiveness of build is harsh. I'd much prefer a vow that will drive the adventures forward.

the gods bless the healing potion that the Fighter administer to their friend and wow healing

Or the fighter dedicates themself to devout service of the gods and gains the ability to heal

or maybe they have the healer background?
