What's the first thing you guess you'll have to house-rule?

First thing first is change around monsters, particularly extraplanar ones. I'll probably have to make some changes to some spells too. Because I'm keeping the Greet Wheel. Also Gnomes.

Besides that, small changes, like if they use Saga's diagonal movement rules I'll undo that. And also I'm making level advancement slower. I'm pretty happy with what I see of the Saga rules so far, it's the fluff I don't like. And that ought to be fairly easy to change.

The "schools of magic"
I hate that idea.
My wizards/sorcerers/warlocks/whatever will NOT have to go to "Sir Shmoopy's school of all hat-baced wizardry in order to cast summon rabbit 1

The wizard item focused spell BS pisses me off too. I've always liked the idea of natural wizards just up and casting spells. My wizards shal not be penalized for using nothing as opposed to the wizard channeling his energy through his fancy new beer mug of focused fireball +2 (or whatever it might be).

  1. Tieflings and Warlocks as standard features.
  2. Re-jiggered demons and devils
  3. Slow advancement (I already had to slow down 3e, which is widely regarded as too fast... now they are making it faster? Oy.)

For starters.

This, of course, presumes that I'll be persuaded or coerced into running.

1st Rule of House rules is: No talking about house rules!

I dunno. Possibly the spiked chain? Give the Bastard sword a more socially acceptable name? Eliminate the compound longbow? :p

When I get 4.0, I'll go over my house rules for 3.5. Then I'll dump the one's that are now redundant/unessesary and adapt the house rules that are still applicable. Since I have lots of house rules for 3.5, (mostly taken from various d20 products) this will take awhile.

None of the changes described for 4.0 seem to call for new house rules. There will probably be something I want to change once I see it, but it's not obvious what from current statements.
