I DM most of the time, too. My Living Greyhawk PC is 6th (Rgr3/Ftr2/Wiz1).

The highest my players have gotten to is 9th, in my previous homebrew campaign. In my current FR campaign, they're currently at 4th, but the plan is to keep on going to 18+.

Lets see... I've had 3 characters that have started from 1st level in 3e.

The first was an Elven Sorcerer 8/Dragon Disciple 5 named Darkshadow. He was killed by a phantasmal killer, true ressurected, and retired. The campaign died not long after his death, because most of the characters died or became unplayable in the next game or two.

The second was an Elven Fighter 6/Deepwood Sniper 2/Peerless Archer 4 named Aurea. I'm not sure exactly when i stopped playing her. We rotated GMs in that campaign for a while and had a system for DMs to get xp for their characters while they DM'd This way they didn't fall behind xp wise (but they did treasure-wise). I took over that campaign full time and my character became NPC'd (which is a shame, because I rather liked her). That campaign has since died (the PCs were catching up to her xp wise).

My third and current character is a Human Bard 3(4)/Paladin 4 (8)/Lochmar Clan Initiate 5/Favored Soul 1 named Seth Lochmar. Clan Initiate is a weird, homebrewed prestige class for the campaign where, for Seth, 1 level counts as bard, 4 levels count as Paladin. He is floundering about without a purpose or goal, but still going (he just left the path of the Paladin to become a favored soul).

So the highest level I've played is 13th at the moment. It took Seth since September of 2002 to get there, but that campaign is opperating at a reduced xp rate.

The only other higher level character I've had was 14th level and started in 2e. A Sensate Elven Bard 3/Cleric of Sune 3/ Divine Disciple of Sune 4/ Virtuoso 4 named Priss. She was the epitomy of a support character and a prima donna, but damn could she intimidate people. Horrid in a fight, which is why she let her cohorts (Aasimar Bard 1/Cleric 5/Heartward 4 and a Kobold Enchanter 6) do the fighting for her while she sang.

I've not played in a game where we started at 1st level. One game I joined did start at 1st level and the only surviving member is a 9th level dwarven fighter. I came into that game at 2nd level. The highest level game I've been in started at 11th level and ended at 33rd.

We're gonna start a 1st level game soon so we'll see...... ;)
