What's the name of the planet of the Warhammer RPG?

Is it a planet? I kinda think of the Old Worlders as having a "the world is flat" mentality. I've always had a problem with having a single name for an entire planet since there would probably be as many names as there are languages. A global perspective may not even exist in the minds of the average rat-catcher or charcoaler which is why there may be no word for the entire planet. The borders of the Empire are probably about as far as most Warhammer minds extend.

Most human minds, anyway. There are a whole whackload of non-human races which have other views of the world, possibly more complete. Even among humans, look at Kislev: they are outside the Empire and have a painfully accurate idea of the world, the existence of the north polar Warpgate, and its implications for human survival.

Ah yes, I stand corrected on my humancentric observation. But my main point is that because there are so many different races and cultures, like the Kislevites, there would be a whole whackload of different perceptions of what the "world" is, with just as many names for it.

Found this online. I'll check for sure when i get home.

Warhammer World: the setting for the Warhammer games. It gets its name from the last Slann ship to come through the warp-gates before they exploded. This ship was called "The Warhammer" and gave its name to the planet. What the Slann called the planet before this is unknown.

Could you please show me the link to this information.

This is quite fascinating.

I always thought the world would have a name like "Earth", though, considering it is so similar to Earth. Also, you've got all those extrapolated Earth names: Kathay (Asia), Brettonia (Brittony/France), etc.

Thanks for the info. :)

Maybe I should ask the folks on the Black Industries site: http://www.blackindustries.com/

Short answer? No name, none of its inhabitants particularly care about such matters, they're too busy fighting for survival.

Long answer? The theory is that it's a feral world somwhere in the 40K universe, possibly IN the Maelstrom, used by the Slann as a testing ground, before the C'Tan attacked, forced the Slann to unleash the 'Nids and everything went to hell in an express elevator

I know very little about 40K, but are you saying that the Warhammer Fantasy World is the world that all the 40K humans, elder (elves), orks, squats (dwarves), etc come from?

Is the Warhammer Fantasy World the seat of the human empire in 40K?

Thanks.

First question: Possibly where they ORIGINALLY came from, except in the case of humans. Not sure how they got there, because the Eldar had just come to be when the Slann fell. And Squats have been effectively retconned out of 40K

Second: No. Earth is very much the spiritual and physical heart of the Imperium of Man.

Seriously, look in the 40K background, its a wonderfully dark and twisted universe.

Now, if you go by 40K, it's Earth....then you just have to decide if Fantasy is the same world in a different time period, or if it is a feral world in the same time period.

I have seen some cazy arguments break out over whether or not 40k is the 'evolution' of the Fantasy setting or some other situation. There are some serious nuts on both sides.

40k and Fantasy used to be related. In one of the old Realms of Chaos books, there was a table for demon equipment, and the tables for the fantasy game included plasma pistols and chainswords. In the recent years, though, GW mostly detached the two settings.

My theory is that Fantasy sits somewhere in the 40k universe, and that Sigmar is/was one of the two unknown Primarchs who crash-landed on it after being abducted by Chaos as an infant. :D
