Whats the Point of the Craft Rings Feat

Salutations,

I am away from my notes at the moment, but I believe they went like this

Craft Minor Magic Item: (for items that used 0-3 level spells)
Prereq:
Must be able to cast 0 level spells.
Spellcraft: 4 ranks
(I might have added Scribe Scrolls OR Brew Potion, I don't recall at the moment, but it makes sense - since those are the most basic enchanted items.)

Craft Moderate Magic Item: (4-6)
Prereq:
Must be able to cast 4th level spells
Craft Minor Magic Item feat
Spellcraft: 10 ranks

Craft Major Magic Item: (7-9)
Prereq:
Must be able to cast 7th level spells
Craft Moderate Magic Item feat
Spellcraft: 16 ranks

Edit:
Any skill requirments for certain items (i.e. Craft weapons or craft armor)?

Since a caster could buy a mw item to enchant- I did not see this as a necessity. I could see the reasoning if a dm wanted to add it- suggesting the caster needed to know the making of the items in detail.

But, I was trying to open up item creation, and I think putting too many skill requirements would be counterproductive.

If you have added scribe scroll to this, would wizards be limited to just scrolls as their bonus feat or would they get this feat?

I meant adding Scribe Scrolls or Brew Potions as feat prereqs- I left them outside of the ability of the three feats I created.

If you wanted to add scrolls/potions to the three generic item creation feats I suggested, then I see no problem giving it in place of Scribe Scroll.

I guess it would depend how you view wizards in your campeign.

Okay, I was just wondering how you did this as I really like this idea. Thanks.

So, to be sure I understand you, Rangers and Paladins cannot craft items in this?

Ahh, ok, good catch (like I said, I am away from notes)-

The requirements for Craft Minor Magical Item would be along the lines of:

Must be able to cast 0 or 1st level spells.
Spellcraft: 4 ranks

I don't have rangers in my game, and I have trouble seeing a paladin make items- but I guess that is besides the point. :)

Thank you for catching that.

IMC I limit characters to known formula for wondrous items (just dmg stuff for the most part), but I allow just about any sort of ring. Not that it comes up much, my players aren't much interested in item creation.

So you wont let them make items at all? I fail too see the reasoning behind a Ranger or a Paladin not being allowed to make magical items. Seems like descrimination too me.
Note: That is not to say that you would see every Ranger and Paladin out creating magic items.

Also, on not having skills as prereq's, it makes sense, but wouldn't it also make sense to allow some kind of Synergy bonus for "knowing so much about the items?"

How are they not allowed to take those feats once I made the adjustment of being able to cast 1st level spells in the prereq?

I may have missed something, but it seems solid to me.

It depends on how you feel about the item creation process- how about something like this: If the caster made the mw item themselves, then the xp cost is reduced by #%? (What ever number you feel is appropriate)

It is an interesting idea that it would be less draining to enchant an item the caster made.
