Longswords get a +1 to attack bonus sure, but scimmies are High Crit!
And in 4e high crit weapons ROCK! (that extra 1[w] damage comes in handy throughout the game! From level 1-30. Magic weapons actually increase this benefit! This is why the greataxe rocks so much over the greatsword, excluding certain swor dfeats ofcourse.)
