What's up with shuriken?

Where is the rule that states that shuriken can be hurled at a rate of 3/attack? Or is this just a house rule? Do you get Str bonuses to these weapons?

From the SRD:
Thrown Weapons: Daggers, clubs, shortspears, spears, darts, javelins, throwing axes, light hammers, tridents, shuriken, and nets are thrown weapons. The wielder applies his or her Strength modifier to damage dealt by thrown weapons (except for splash weapons).
...
Although they are thrown weapons, shuriken are treated as ammunition for the purposes of drawing them, crafting masterwork or otherwise special versions of them (see Masterwork Weapons), and what happens to them after they are thrown.

In 3.0 you could hurl 3 shuriken with one attack at a single opponent. That point didn't make it into 3.5.

As was previously stated, this was the case in 3.0. Its a pity though, Ive got a master thrower thatd be great tossing 60 shurikens a round.

60 Shurikens/3 per attack... hmmm... you have 20 attacks per round? :P

3.5e shurikens are a bit different. They can be drawn as a free action and used as a monk weapon for Flurry of Blows.

My 14th level character with 24 Str, Boots of Speed, two levels of monk (Flurry -2/-2) and two levels of ranger (two-weapon fighting) could theoretically hurl six of these per round, with 1d2+7 damage (and 1d2+3 for the one hurled with his off-hand attack). But he never does; there are better ways of dealing damage.

No rapid shot feat?

Originally used to distract oppenets multiple could be thrown without doing much damage like in 3.0

Now, kids get a hold of cheap replicas and hurl them with all their might so that they might stick into trees or other things like in 3.5

So, in other words, 60 points of damage? Assuming those 60 attack rolls hit? Eh, seems okay to me, but nothing gamebreaking.

(Well, I suppose you could factor in precision-based damage, which would only apply to the first of each... so... still not really a benefit for using the 3e version.)

Until you add poison, in which case it is sixty saving throws. that's where potential gamebreaking comes in.

It's not gamebreaking, you can't get 20 attacks in a round, even under 3.0 and you only throw 1 at a time in 3.5. You're looking at 6 attacks max either way, and you only make saves for each attack that does damage, not each shuriken. So at most 6 saves vs poison in either edition.
