I gotta say, I've been to 49 states and most the provinces of Canada and still nothing tops a New Jersey pizza. I don't think I've ever had a pie outside of Jersey and a few places in NYC and eastern PA that wasn't absolutely gross. I don't know what it is but everywhere outside of the area just has no idea how to make a tomato pie. But best take-out, drunken buffalo wings 911 heat at 3am from the cluck-u. I swear they put crack or something in them cause you just get wicked cravings for it.

I rarely do takeout myself, and I'm lucky to live in an area surrounded by terrific food available for take out...so I do a little bit of everything.

However, seeing this thread reminded me of something a local restaraunteur told me.

He's a Serb, and he runs a FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC pizza place called "Brothers Pizza" (Carrolton, TX). Virtually everything except the sausage he uses is made fresh to order.

I asked him, accomplished a cook as he is, why he didn't open a Serbian (or similar) cuisine place.

His response was that, before he opened his place, he did his research. His research showed him that restaraunts have a high failure rate, and he wanted to be a success- since pizza places are the #1 fast-food cuisine in the USA, a pizza place was what he was going to open.

Judging by his success and the responses in this thread, I'd say he was right!

I like loco moco (hamburger patty topped with an egg over easy, smothered in brown gravy, and all of it perched atop a bed of sticky rice) from L&L.

Total comfort food, Hawaii-style.

Though probably pretty soon this will be replaced with White Castle. ;)

Either Eddie' Special (Japanese style stir fry of beef and chicken, a little spicy, with vegetables and white rice) from Shono's or Meat Lover's Deep Dish from Tortuga's - an actual Chicago Pizza Place transplanted to Birmingham, AL so the owner could be near his grandkids.

EDIT: although honestly, the kind of stuff we pick up and take home or have delivered is usually just to have something to eat (Little Ceaser, various burger places, etc). Good food we usually go to and eat, and given that most of our favorite places are less than a 10 min drive there usually isnt a reason not to just go.

Holy crap, I think my heart stopped just reading that. Of course, the former Buffalo Wild Wings place in downtown Indy, now called Badaboomz, has a hamburger with a DONUT as a BUN!

I grew up in Clifton in northern NJ, and I wholeheartedly agree; there's more good pizza in Jersey that anywhere else.
