I've only ever played two ways online: I've done play-by-post on these borads, and I've used a custom java chat client that my friend threw together.

Wow. I figured I would have a bunch of people liking Klooge, another bunch liking FG, and then a few people playing via IRC or some other messenger and a few people playing via forum. I also thought (hoped really) that someone would say "Oh, why use Klooge or FG - check out this program".

I don't think I could do the whole IRC/forum gaming over the net. Just seems too removed from tabletop to me. I am looking into getting some sort of online gaming system set up, and put this poll on here to see what the consensus was. So far looks pretty bleak LOL

I'll give you an "Other" to check into...GhostOrb.com. I'm in as one of their "Storm Crow" early users and both the community involved* and the application itself are looking very promising! The creators/owners/admins are on the site, responsive, and so far a great group of folks.

The hell is a klooge?

Our group uses OpenRPG, which runs on Python, so it might be mac/pc cross-compatible...I dunno. Serves our purposes fairly well, although since it's open-source there are few people working to make it streamlined and user-friendly.

We've had them here, recently, too, with no problems. Oh, but for the love of deity, don't bring up DIETS. :D

As for playing online, I guess I'd have to say Neverwinter Nights, since I've never heard of any of these options (What is this "other" of which you speak? :p ) and that's the only way I've ever played it on the 'net at all.

AOL Instant Messenger chat room...has a die-rolling utility built right in.

Not as fancy or game-friendly as OpenRPG...but a heckuva lot easier to install and get up and running with, esp. if you're not a true computer geek. :)
