What's your perfect movie

I don't know if it's 'perfect', but V for Vendetta by the Wachowskis is tight; not an ounce of fat on that film: the plot moves, yet there's still time for emotional connection with the protagonist as well as a helluva plot twist (for those who didn't know it was coming, anyway). I think it hit all the targets it set out to hit.

One I'm not sure has been mentioned yet is Hot Fuzz, just for being so very carefully crafted in terms of set-ups and pay-offs while also knowing exactly what it's doing in terms of simultaneously parodying and paying homage to that specific breed of action cop thrillers. Plus it's really fun to watch.

I am Listening to "Best Movie Year Ever" (1999) and am reminded how many great films came out that year, as well as ones that might not have been "great" but were at least genre-defining and personally impactful. Just to name two: Office Space, and The Matrix (which, if you think about it, have basically the same plot).

Not sure the printer from office space is as menacing as the matrix, but it'll do as a stand in :ROFLMAO:

Its' a toss up between:

Saving Private Ryan
The Godfather
Star Trek II

At least, those are the ones I have rewatched A LOT. Oh, and Monty Python and The Holy Grail. :)

Monty Python and the Holy Grail had so much great stuff. Their limited budget meant that they ended up with coconuts instead of actual horses (at least this was the story I heard years ago) which made it so much better. The ending was brilliant as well, almost like they couldn't quite figure out how to end the movie so they just had them arrested.

Saving Private Ryan was great, I love how Tom Hanks moved from being a comedic actor to become known more for his later dramatic roles.

Wrath of Khan was brilliant.

To the shock of many, I'm sure, I've never seen the Godfather.

Off the top of my head I'd say Raiders of the Lost Ark as well.

I don't know how you do what that movie's doing any better than how it does it, and I love what it's doing and how it does it.

I think Harrison Ford playing Indiana Jones directed by Steven Spielberg is 100% solid gold, even in the entries in the series that aren't as good as Raiders.

I do love the Indiana Jones movies. Adventure is probably one of my favourite genres: Indiana Jones, the mummy with Brendan Fraser, journey to the centre of the earth, the jumanji movies. All great movies, but Indiana Jones sits at the top, quite likely due to being my introduction to that style of movie.
