What's your runner up D&D setting?

Well, my favorite setting is "Planescape", hands down.

My 2nd favorite setting?
"Midnight" from Fantasy Flight.

(Though "Dark Sun" and "Ravenloft" are neck-and-neck runners-up.)

Oathbound, since Paradigm Concepts' Arcanis is disqualified as my first choice.

Third choice goes to a toss-up between Eberron and the Scarred Lands

This is darn difficult to answer.

I have no favoured D&D setting -- I'm not a giant fan of any of them. The closest I get are some of the ideas found in Green Ronin's Mythic Vistas series.

Probably my setting would either be Eberron or X-Crawl

The latter is very honest in that it makes D&D what it is all about (go into improbable/impossible underground spaces, kill monsters that are there for no good reason, take the heaps of treasure that, again, are there for no good reason).

The former is an okay attempt to actually take the RAW and create a world around what is found there. It doesn't go quite far enough, but it is an attempt.

I will admit to a fascination with Northern Crown, but as I have never been able to read it, it becomes difficult to determine whether I would only like the idea or the actual execution.

Excluded: Eberron

Runner-up: Eberron really, really seems to just *click* for me, so after much wailing and gnashing of teeth, I'd probably pick up Iron Kingdoms before any other setting.

Excluded: Arcanis (lol, see sig)

Runner-up: Forgotten Realms (Specially a Waterdeep campaign)

Some people may disregard my favorite because I contribute to Arcanis products, but in all honesty the Forgotten Realms was my #1 world for a long time, yes even after we released the first incarnation of the Codex Arcanis. But as I got to know the world more and more, I began to see how dynamic it was. It’s a world filled with so many realistic conflicts; geopolitical, religious, racial, and even personal character conflicts. Just the worlds belief system has given me more than enough martial for a home game (Gods don’t have alignments, churches have alignments… mortals have developed good and bad interpretations of the gods, and some interpretations are even considered Heretical…) It’s a captivating world filled in with shades grays , a world where being a hero is never easy.
