D&D General What's your second favorite edition of D&D?

My 2nd favorite is 2nd edition. It was the edition I started with. Plus it was ripe with creativity!

I know the various settings weren't a financially sound plan, but they were creatively awesome.

Plus there were tons of novels.
 


While there are differences, and they are certainly separate games, Pathfinder 1e and D&D 3.5 are very close to one another in preference. I prefer some things about one over the other in about equal measure.
 




I think 4e. I recall all the Dragon articles leading up to 3e and was not sold until it came out and then I was onboard and thought it was great. 4e had a lot leading up to it and I found myself leaning in to it more during pre-launch. It was different, but was able to DM easily and I am a fan of rolling spells to hit, even with things like fireball where you roll to hit reflex over having the DM make the roll to save. (I just let my player roll the save, but not as fun/cool)
 


4e. Character combat balance, character role mechanics, monster role mechanics, nice skill system, action movie baseline. It has a bunch going for it.
