In order;

Al-Qadim
Kara-Tur
Greyhawk, From the Ashes
Forgotten Realms, pre-Time of Troubles
Eberron

For non WotC-settings, the Scarred Lands are my fave.

My favorite WotC/TSR settings are Taladas (James O'Rance's D20 conversion was one of my favorite D20 products ever and it was free, go figure), Then would come Ravenloft 3rd edition (Gazeteers were the best), then the original forgotten realms. Upon doing this I have noticed a trend. I like fluff heavy worlds written by writers that really have a passion for their work. I guess I play more to let my imagination run free and create stories rather than to roll play uber monster slayers.

Revised Dark Sun, FRCS 3E, Masque of the Red Death (D20), Mystara 1010 AC, Ravenloft (post GRAND conjuntion), Ravenloft 3E, Red Steel & Spelljammer.

I checked out of 2nd edition before the majority of these settings were released or really explored in-depth. I checked all the boxes that I owned and liked, but given my tastes today, I think I would have also liked Planescape, al-Qadim, Birthright, and the original Ravenloft.

It's strange....I think Planescape has become much more popular than it ever was since 3.5 came about and it's not even a published setting anymore. I think that's cool.

Maybe there will be more planar content in 4e, that would be nice. I wish Dark Sun would get some attention this time around :p

Uh....you realize that Dragonlance Fourth Age includes the War of the Lance, right? ;) (Guessing you meant the Fifth Age.) And where's Taladas?

doh! yes, it's 5th age! and i completely forgot about taladas! my dragonlance-fu is not too sharp! :P

Dark Sun, original Boxed set (because it was built as a baseline, and it expected GMs to add and interpret the material in their own way, whereas the expansions set too much in stone).

Jakandor gets second place, because it was just a COOL SETTING. Native/Viking cross Barbarians fighting Aztec-like Wizards that have zombie and skeleton pets, in a fairly low-magic (for D&D) jungle setting, amidst cyclopean ruins? I mean, you can't get much cooler than that. Really.

Council of Wyrms gets my third vote, because it was a neat idea, and a neat setting. The idea of playing a dragon, and then also playing in games as your dragon's mortal familiar is kind of cool, and any game that really incorporates the passing of time as a necessity is cool in my book. Plus, the few times I played Council of Wyrms, I got to be a Silver Dragon named Freddy Mercury. And that's just AWESOME. (Plus, the CharGen rules basically had "feats" that let you learn certain dragon attacks, rather than just learning them automatically - a sort of precursor to 3e's feats, in a way. Kind of neat).

1st: Al-Qadim*
2nd: Dragonlance (War of the Lance)

If the new Forgotten Realms included Al-Qadim, I'd be all over it for 4E.

It's funny, in all my years of D&D playing and DMing, my groups have never been interested in published settings.
We played Scarred Lands for a while.
And we've used plenty of modules, but nothing long term.
