I will watch it. I am mildly looking forward to it. But my love for Joss and Minear has waned to merely a moderate appreciation in the last year.

I'm in the same boat. More and more I'm convinced that David Greenwalt was the true talent behind Buffy and Angel.

I'll give this new show a try, but I don't expect it to last long. They supposedly have a seven episode commitment, but FOX yanked Drive after showing only four of its six episodes, so that doesn't necessarily mean much.

Sounds like Alias crossed with Le Femme Nikita.

And while Fox didn't do Firefly any favors by screwing up the order, the ratings for it were really terrible, usually worse than Cops or Amercia's Most Wanted, which costs them like $10 to produce

I'm no expert, but I would imagine that there would be money to be made on the back end (DVD sales) with a series that tells a story that you just couldn't replicate with reality TV. I mean, who's gonna want to watch "cops" or "american idol" or "survivor" as a rerun or on DVD?

Plus, I think the reality TV market is pretty well saturated these days. That's why the networks' threat to just produce more reality TV (which doesn't need writers) hasn't deterred the WGA from going ahead with their strike. I guess we'll see what happens.

I enjoyed Buffy (well, 1-3 seasons) and Angel, though not Firefly. Whenever I heard Whedon talking about stuff he thought was great and I thought tripe, I would wonder whether these shows were great shows because of him, or in spite of him. I'll give the new show a chance and hope it's good.

COPS is actually in syndication. So someone watches them in re-runs. And there are even some DVDs.

But yeah, DVD sales are a factor, but it's not obvious a show will sell on DVD. Lots of other shows get cancelled, and not many sold as well as Firefly (basically just Family Guy, which sold better).

That they did is probably why they are giving him another show. And why they likely won't pull the plug on it so early this time. And maybe even show the episodes in order.
