Whedon Back on TV! With Eliza Dushku! On Fox, No Less!

I beg to differ.

I have disagree with you. Faith was a great character and the actress did a fine job with it. I like the actress and I enjoyed Tru Calling.

I will watch this show. I like Joss Wheadon and his way of story telling and character development. He is also one of the best when it comes to making strong female characters.

Now,if only Ms. Dushku could only act, they'd have something. That last thing they did with her and reliving days... that wasn't good.

Yup. It is a shame. Of all of Whedon's stable of former cast members, Dushku is the only one that I never cared to watch. She seems nice enough in interviews and whatnot but simply cannot seem to act at all.

I've met sci-fi's management, and they are a really good group of people. MUCH more nerdy than folks seem to think.

I have to agree with Elf Witch. As nice as they may be they are horrible at running a TV channel. I remain bitter and upset over what they are doing to Flash Gordon. They have absolutely destroyed that property, created some of the worst TV in recent memory, heavily promoted it because they stupidly prepurchased an entire season without seeing how bad it is, watched the ratings absolutely tank, and then have the audacity to keep giving interviews about how great it is and continue to leave it on the air. At this point I think the old FOX execs have more common sense then the current Sci-Fi management and they killed several of my favorite shows prematurely.

Or maybe you are not their primary viewer category?

For example, a lot of people here hate their sci-fi original movies. And yet, those movies get solidly good ratings.

Their policy of showing a show once then not showing it again is really annoying.

That's not their "policy" that is the standard contract for most shows. Similar to networks who don't rerun right away either. It's not MTV.

They cancel shows like the Dresden Files which had an active fan base who really campaigned to keep it on.

I liked that show too, but it had crappy ratings relative to the cost of making that show. If you think they are out of tune with their viewers, then how come their viewers were not viewing that show and yet you are upset they canceled it based on the viewers actions?

First, where did you hear they prepurchased the season? They were in fact considering canceling it mid-season, but went with it because the ratings kept improving (up until baseball season). I had not heard about a prepurchase of the season (and the actors certainly didn't seem to think so at the beginning).

Second, you don't like one of their shows (neither do I) and that means the entire network stinks? Wow, do you use that same criteria for all channels?

You are partially right on the first part. They had half the season already filmed when they aired the pilot (to terrible reviews) The pilot got decent raiting as people tuned in to see how it would be. The ratings at that point started declining alot. It started with a 1.4 I think, fell to a 1.0 then to a .8 then it fell out out the ratings which put it at a .7 or worse. It did climb briefly back to a .8 then fell off the radar again with less than a .7 a couple of weeks ago. For reference the other Friday night shows are pulling .8 at the worst for Dr. Who up a 1.0 for Dr. Who with Atlantis pulling in 1.2 or better after it and Oddessy 5 pulling in a 1.0 before it was cancled. The prepurchase I am talking about was the purchasing of the second half of the season after only the airing of the pilot. There have been several references to the execs basicly saying they had already paid for 22 episodes so they were going to show them all. This is the first I have ever heard that they even considered canceling it.

As for the network, I never said it stinks. I said I was bitter at the execs for destoying the Flash Gordon property and that the execs lacked the common sense shown by the old FOX executives by not pulling the plug on this utter piece of garbage. Added to this they are dragging the rest of the network down, which I do like (Things like Eureka, Atlantis, Superhero, thier Mini-Series) by continueing to overpromote this disaster of a show.

I can only assume that you missed her appearances on Angel. While I wasn't crazy about Faith on Buffy, her appearances on Angel were much deeper, and allowed a much greater range of acting (proving, at least to me, that any problems I had with her performance on Buffy were due to the character, not the actress). And when she came back in season 7 of Buffy, I had none of the problems I had with her originally.

i remember when the network first went live. It was in someway betters. Granted most of the programming were old SF shows but they had this really cool slot at 10 PM where they showed SF shows that had limited number of episodes. They made a big deal out of it in the breaks that had interviews with the actors and the producers of these shows.

They also had a SF news show that was really great.

I am glad to see them doing more orginial programing that is one thing they did that was right.
Really? Because a lot of [cable] viewers would rather they stop making "Original SCI-FI" movies. I mean, remember Earthsea?

Some of the decisions made are from the parent company for example USA is/was owned by the same parent comapny of Sci-Fi so why were there never any commercials for the shows on Sci-Fi on USA. I would think that during shows like the 4400 and Dead Zone it would make good sesne to reach your targeted audience.
Because they air promos on NBC/Universal?

Too bad NBC didn't try to re-air SCI-FI series like during the summer run. I would have caught up with BSG as a non-cable TV viewer.

Yeah but you also had Farscape, Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis, Eurkea to name a few of their good original programs.

Nope. She's always been flat. Any growth you think you perceive likely comes from writers writing around what little they had to work with and directors doing similar. It's like writers who have one decent story in them or people who can sing one certain song convincingly well. Once it is discovered where any person's limited acting range is, you can sometimes keep material in the wheelhouse. Also, once in a while a particularly good director can trick a person into making a leap in ability but it cannot be attributed to acting talent nor likely to be reproduced by the actor, even with the same director.
