D&D 4E Whee! I get to play 4e tomorrow!

Morrus

Well, that was fun

Charles Ryan (former D&D brand manager, now works for Esdevium here in the UK) has invited me to go play 4E at the Esdevium offices tomorrow (Wednesday). I'm assuming it'll be the same demo as at DDXP, with the same pregens. So tomorrow morning I and three others will be heading up there for my first bona-fide look at 4E! I can't wait.

We'll be there from 10am till mid afternoon (breaking for lunch).

Which character are you picking?

If I could choose, it would be the warlock. Looks like it's the most fun character. Too bad it's not Eladrin.

Ah, yes, I'll need a character. It's been so long since I sat on the players' side of the DM screen I'd forgotten that very crucial step!

Wait, Rechan, you're saying that the Paladin was more popular than the Wizard?

This can't be D&D!!

;)

Edit: Awwww, you're spoiling all my fun. ;) *sniffsniff*

No, the guy had those characters "locked". When new people arrived, the option for those classes "Unlocked".

Dear lord, that DM scares me.

The paladin was the man! AC 20 +2 AC when adjacent to two larger enemies, plus second chance, and + 2 AC against op attacks + lay on hands = does not die!

Well, there was many things he did that was CLEARLY "wrong". Including misinformation. c.c

Sadly, our Paladin didn't get to shine. First a maybe 10 year old girl was playing him, then a newbie. The Hobgoblin Warcaster knocked him down with the pulse, and always rolled low on the initiative.

However, a needed lay on hands got me back in the fight, so that was good. :)

Wow... if you're lucky, Charles got an honorary free pre-release copy of the PHB!

Unlikely, but even an off-chance is a good chance :)

I recommend the fighter or the ranger, btw. The ranger has some very nice combat options, both defensively and attack-wise. The fighter, provided people aren't silly enough to block your way to the enemies AND REMAIN THERE FOR FIVE ROUNDS (yes, that happened to me), can be very cool.

Tide of Iron is fun (I know it doesn't sound like it on paper, but essentially you're pushing people around wherever YOU want them to be which is not only cool tactically, but just fun from a pure bullying standpoint :D ) and the combat superiority abilities are really cool (you get to basically pin opponents down, which is the equivalent of the dwarven fighter screaming, "Stay here and fight me like a man, you big pussy!").
