When 3.0 books become obsolete...

How essential will it be to have the new books? As someone who's just about to start playing and has all the 3.0 stuff, should I feel inclined to now go buy the 3.5 books?

If you just bought or are just starting to use your 3.0 books, you could always download the free SRD from WotC when they update it to get the 3.5 rules. Then you could decide if it's worth it to you to upgrade.

G'day

I will write my 'phone number and e-mail address into the inside front covers (under my name) and sell them to the local second-hand book dealer.

This is because I have no shame. (See .sig)

I'm going to take a Sharpee and black out everything I don't like. Then I'll tell my campaign players they have to use my books, since it seems that they're not converting to 3.5. :D

Cheers!

When I get 3.5?

I don't know man, I don't like half of the changes that I've heard they're making to the game. And the half I like, I've mostly house-ruled already...

I'm gonna keep mine. When 3.5 appears in german language I will retire the old books to the shelf where my 1e/2e stuff is collecting dust. It seems not be a very good idea to switch to 3.5 immediately when half of your players are not fluent in the english language, so I'll just wait for the translation.

I'm thinking I will donate the three core books to the local library. Maybe it will bring some new players into the game.

Don't you need the core books to use AU, though? I thought it was still a d20 book.

Nope, I believe Monte has said the AU core book is OGL not d20, it has xp and character generating stuff so you can run a complete game without the core books and so it gives up the d20 brand logo on the cover.

Everything else in the line will be d20 so they will say they require the PH, even if you will be fine with just the AU book. Of course they are designed to mostly work interchangeably with D&D stuff.
