Just a quick question for the rules gurus out there.

If I am playing an earth mephit which has three hit dice and and ecl of 6. Do I become an epic character after i have reached 18th level (21 hit dice) or when I reach 15th level (21 effective levels).

Thanks

can't find my ELHB at the moment but there is a passage in there that says that. if your char is ECL +6 you become epic at 15. there is an example in the book that talks about this and it is very clear. gonna find the book and post that info soon.

Yep. Just to clarify, it's once your ECL plus class levels equal 21 or higher, you're epic.

Yeah, I agree with everybody about when the character in question, or any like him, becoming epic when that character hits 15th level.

The only catch is that you don't use the epic level classes until you reach 21st character level. There is a sidebar that lists this early in the book.

So at 21 effective levels you are considered epic. Right? If that is the case do you get access to all of the epic feats and are you restricted by epic level advancement, +1 attack every even level, +1 saves every odd level, etc.?

This is where it gets complicated.

You would be a 15th level Earth Mephit. You would be Epic, and could pick an Epic feat whenever you qualified for one.

But you would not yet have any levels in an Epic Class. Until you reach 20 levels (actual levels, not Equivalent Character Levels) you continue to use Core Class Advancement Charts.

Its only after that that you switch to Epic Class Advancement Charts, and only then if you have Epic Class Levels (ie, 21+ in 1 class. A 11th Fighter/10th Rogue is still on the Core Class Charts.)

Clear as mud right?

IIRC, I thought that even though you are considered Epic level you still don't get to choose an Epic level feat until you actually acheive a class level of 20. Heck, I could be wrong, but I don't think I am.

As a counter example, consider an 11th Fighter/10th Rogue.

Hes defintely an Epic Character, hes a 21st level Character after all.

He still advances on the Core Class Charts though, since he hasn't surpassed 20th level in any of her classess yet. But he can still take an Epic feat for his Character feats (the ones he gets every 3 levels ... 21st, 24th, 27th, etc ...)

I can't give page referecenes but I'm sure thats how it works.

When you are dealing with an ECL race, just think of it as a Multiclass Character.

ie, 15th Fighter/6th Mephit. So 21st Character, and able to get Epic feats.
