When Bob wants to play a female PC

I am not trying to be rude, at least not to Destan - I applaud that he actually made this post on here. It shows to me he had some doubts, and looked to the folks here for advice.

That post was made to show a point - that it is ridiculous to limit someone to what they can play in a role-playing game based on any attributes they have in real life.

Please note his request didn't "spook" me. The Exorcist spooks me. Clowns spook me.

Clowns *ARE* spooky. Sitting there in their towers, clowning up the whole realm. Oh, they are smug and evil. Beer helps though.

No one who has watche the "Proto-Clown" episode of "The Tick" animated series can ever look at them without a slight tremble of fear...

Anyone who's sending you hate mail over a post like this is a a$#^%@$#.

I don't think anyone has sent him hate e-mail. I think he just subscribed to this thread and was getting notifications of the posts here. I believe that is what he meant by flooding his inbox.

who knew that this simple little thread of a problem that has been talked about many, many times on these very boards who yield so much neagativity toward some people. Some of the comparisons are laughible, and I can actually see a group being happy if a persons leaves becasue they can't play a certain gender. Anyone who is that stuck on playing something that might make someone else in the group a bit uncomfortible is best to be out of the group.

And yes, clowns can be creepy. :D

I think that both sides of the argument are being kind of rude and insulting each other's intelligence; I really can't see this as an issue to be overly concerned with.

As a DM, I run all kinds of female NPCs and no one cares. I also allow female PCs and/or cohorts, which isn't a problem. My players are mature enough (well, in THIS instance at least) to have no problems playing a female character. I don't think any of them has gender issues, and certainly no one plays stereotypes or bimbos. A player of mine just stated that certain character concepts just naturally lend themselves to female characters, just as certain roles in movies also lend themselves to female characters.

As a general rule, I really don't play female PCs, but this is likely due to the fact that the concepts I create and find fun to play don't lend themselves to females. As long as your players are mature enough, I wouldn't see why not. However, since this is your game, and you are responsible only to yourself and your players for creating a fun game, it really doesn't matter what people on EN World think. If a female PC would detract from the enjoyment of your hobby, don't allow it.

I banned cross gender roleplaying in my campaign for reasons of fairness -- we have had otherwise good players play the opposite gender in ways that offend the group --

For men its usually the "Ho" "Psycho" or "Bit*h" types for male players, for female players it is an excuse not to participate "Non descript Rogues" were a code name for "I am only gaming cause my S.O. is here"

Making someone play their own gender solved both of these problems

For the record also don't have any really inhuman races -- the nonhuman races Warmade, Changelings and Dwarves are quite close to human in psycology-- This isn't exactly a fixed rule but morea flavor one -- I can tolerate the occasional Lizard Man or Flumph or whatever

In my next campaign there may not be any non human races -- but thats a flavor issue not an RP one -- I generally dislike non humans as PC's in my game worlds

A person you game with has had a sex change, one way or the other. What can they play?

A person you game with was actually born a hermaphrodite. What's your ruling?

The character's sex should match the pronoun used to refer to the player. Apply as necessary.

Destan,
(not sure if this is relevant, and at the risk of giving you something else to worry about)
Do you imagine that all the nicks & avatars on EN World match the gender of the people behind them?

FWIW, I'm a guy and I play a female character. But the DM of that game is a shrink so I guess it's OK. :)

I know I am sharpening my pitchfork to come after you! :D

I have not had to deal with cross-gender much - only one character in the last few years. He played the female PC as a wild barbarian - not exactly a stretch for a male player!

I do nix player concepts on a regular basis. I have players who often want to do racial stereotypes complete with obnoxious accents - think of Simpsons' Apu Nahasapeemapetilon - I have no hesitation in saying no to these.

I like my PCs to be mostly human.

I like my PCs to be mainly core rulebook classes.

You like mostly male PCs - I don't really see the problem man.
