When Can't it Fly?

Ahh - that's what I was thinking of!!!

If you want rules, you can use the ones from the 1ed DMG.

Total damage above 50%, the flyer must land.
Total damage 75%, the flyer plummets uncontrollably.
Flyers with feathered wings are treated as though they had 50% more hp for damage check purposes.
Cheers - Steve,

Yeap, those are the old 1st edition rules that I'm thinking of!
As things stand though (as much as i like them) I don't think that it's fair to use them under 3rd edition!
I mean, why peanalise flight above other movement rates?
Ok, one could argue that it has to be the most strenuous method of movement (for those with wings that is) - but if one invokes a rule like this one would also have to have similar rules to slow other movement rates (internal consistency & all that).
I.e. if the Ranger has been badly wounded, can he still move at 30ft, in exactly the same way as he could when he was in perfect health?

Mind you as Conaill said . . . .

Probably too much hassle to keep track of though...

I guess that it's probably just best to leave well alone & remember to use strength draining attacks on those flying creatures that you want to bring back to the ground :heh:

You're welcome. :)
Flight is pretty handy. It neutralizes a lot of obstacles and keeps you out of reach of many enemies. But, using the 1ed rules does create more paperwork.
