I think I started in Greyhawk around 1992-1993. I remember reading the 'From the Ashes' preview in Dragon to death and deciding I liked the place. I bought FtA, read it and started my first Greyhawk game using Castle Karistyne as a backdrop.

Haven't looked back. It's my gameworld of choice.

Ah yes... the summer of 1980 saw the start my World of Greyhawk campaign. And its been a continuous campaign timeline ever since, even as players come and go. But why are the bulk of 'hawkers oldtimers? As its already been pointed out... NO SUPPORT! How can anyone "get into" Greyhawk if there is no product whatsoever. And there hasn't been anything significant for a very long time. The Living Greyhawk Gazetteer in 2000 and the 4-part maps that Erik did in Dungeon magazine a few years back, were the only things this decade. Pretty tough to sell a campaign setting on just that, when the FR and Ebberon steamrollers are still pumping out product. The fact that there are still so many Greyhawk fans out there despite this is a testament to its success.

Yeah ... I am 37. :)

Me too, but I started my first Greyhawk game in 1978 with the release of Village of Hommlet, just a year after beginning to play :D I started actively running in the broader world with the 1980 folio, of course, but Greyhawk was alive and well in D&D starting with the release of the G and D modules, as well as numerous articles and mentions in The Dragon.

2001, when I first played Living Greyhawk at GenCon.

But, I'd been aware of Greyhawk since '82, when I first started playing D&D, and read Gary's notes on events in Oerth in Dragon magazine.

We played a lot of the old modules that were, ostensibly, set in Greyhawk, but our DM just placed them in his own game world.

Oops, I picked the wrong answer. I choose "never," even though I had used it for inspiration. However, I forgot about my RttToEE campaign that I ran in 2000. However, knew about and owned Greyhawk products since 1980 or so.

Let's see...

3 Birthright games
2 Mystara games
1 Spelljammer game
2 Eberron games
1 Dark sun game
2 Planescape games

And a crapload of Homebrews.

So yeah, never.

Edit - Some of the modules I played probably started as Greyhawk modules, but they were modified or placed in the settings I mentioned above.

Well, the theory is a bit simplistic. GH isn't attracting as many new customers since the only new official product for it in the recent past is Living Greyhawk Gazetteer. GH has had nowhere near the support of FR or Eberron out of WotC aside from the rather tepid declaration that it was the "default" world. Support has mainly been from parallel streams like the RPGA's LG campaign or Paizo's Dungeon Magazine.

So, if younger gamers aren't as attracted to it, it's no surprise. They haven't had it marketed to them like FR and Eberron.
Not to mention the fact that you'd be hard-pressed to even find a copy of the LGG on the shelves of a FLGS now. That book's been out too long for most FLGS to stock routinely stock it now.

Well...ok, let me see...

Faerûn, most of my campaigns use the FRCS
Dark Sun, years ago I DMed a campaign composed of three adventures, hmm, don't recall the name (I'm getting old)...
Krynn, a handful of adventures played in Krynn
Ravenloft, two or three nice stories, one I really liked (involving Strahd himself :], don't remember the module...again *Sigh*)
One spelljammer adventure

so...no Greyhawk used yet, and unlikely that it'll ever happen.

On the other hand, what themes distinguish Greyhawk strongly enough from the Forgotten Realms that would justify supporting the setting as a full-fledged line without cutting into FR sales?

If WotC supports multiple settings, they need to be strongly different from each other to be profitable. Eberron is clearly distinguishable in its themes from the Forgotten Realms. But is Greyhawk?
