D&D 4E When will 4E appear?

Just thinking about getting the 3.5 books but I'm afraid that If I do, I'll be wasting my money because 4E might be right around the corner. I want to get the latest rule set, but that's a lot of money, to buy all 3 books. So anyone know anything about 4E and when it will be released?

Well, 1st ed came out in 77, 2nd ed came out in 89, and 3rd ed came out in 2000. Following the current patern, it won't be until 2010.

But one of the reasons 3rd ed came out was because 2nd ed rules were overly complex and ridiculously unstable. You needed thousands of optional variants and house rules to make it work. And despite any problems it may have with changes in style or focus on minatures, 3rd ed is definately not unstable.

4E should be in stores tomorrow. Expect 5E within a few weeks. And, yes, the sky is also falling.

Not much of a clue.

The best guess anyone has at the moment is possibly 2007, more likely 2008, and likely not even then.

I think you're very safe - with the books they're releasing at the moment, it's very, very unlikely 4e is anywhere near.

I remember all those "Complete" books and optional rules like "Skills and Powers" or something like that.

My guess is around 2009 or 2010.

Other than that: how about using the SRD 3.5, if you don't feel like giving some money for the actual books? I'm using the SRD pretty much whenever when I'm not at home, which seems to be all the time these days, and it works out quite nicely .
