When you're the only one who likes what you like

Well, due to some inner drama, and in order to keep the game alive, it looks like the group is going to Pathfinder instead. Grrf.

It's also kind of funny. I am going back over my 3e material/looking at the PF Beta, and my brain is just continually screaming "Do not want to go back!" along with the sound of screeching tires. :)

Have you ever been the only person, among all those you associate with, who likes something? And everyone else is indifferent to displeased with it?
Well, not quite, but nearly. :erm:

Last time I looked at running some post-apoc, not so long ago actually, the people I pitched the idea to. . . weren't keen on that kind of setting for RPGs. In theory, anyway (sigh). And at the time, I couldn't be bothered persuading or arguing, so. . . that was that; oh well. :(

Similar-ish, I guess. Not the same long term malaise, however. Must be a downer, yeah. But in the end, as long as you can find something to do together, that you all enjoy, it ain't so bad. Hopefully, that's the case.

Get some of the old couts to DM 3e, that will teach them to shut their whine holes...

Most DM's should get a medal for having to put up with what they do...

<ignoring the 4E conversation>

Yes, a few years ago I fell in love with the Dragonstar setting. I got some people to try out an adventure or two, but could never get a group to play it.

Even as I read through the rules for the Beta, man I am dreading this. I sound whiny but, just nothing looks good. I'm not really looking forward to two months of being level 1.

I guess this is how my players felt. :(

I'm not saying that the opinions aren't legitimate. But it's starting to seem like my like isn't legitimate. Me, I adore the system. So it feels like there's no where I can go - not my friends, not online gaming friends in casual conversation, not online forums - where what I like isn't being trashed. It's a culmination of becoming a joke or thing of contention everywhere I look.

It's starting to really hurt my feelings.

Me? I harbor a strong dislike of 4Ed too (and some other games, like GURPS).

I say that to say this- I love HERO. Its my all time favorite system, and I haven't been able to play a game of it since 1999.

So you like a game your buddies don't like- big deal! Every gamer has a pet system that it seems nobody else would give the time of day.

Consider this- by being a gamer, you're involved in a hobby that most people don't care for. And odds are, everyone else you know has some hobby, band, or food they love that you can't stand.

Our likes & dislikes are part of what makes us unique.

I am the only person in any of my gaming groups that like 3.5 psionics. Too many of my friends either don't like the flavour or have memories of earlier versions of psionics. Yet some of them, paradoxically, like spell-point systems. My efforts to reskin psionics as "gem magic" are not enough. Luckily, there are other choices that are fun, but I wait, patiently, for a chance to run a "no arcane magic" psionics campaign.
