Chillborn Zombies are an exception, as they specify that their damage is cumulaive. MM, p. 275.

1) Chillborn zombies have resistance cold 10. So if there's more than 2 zombies in proximity to one another, they're going to take damage from their fellows' auras. The aura states (any creature).

I would have said they would take 5 damage multiple times so they would resist it all.

Stop attacking their AC. If your players are dropping 20s into stats, using standard point buy, chances are there are a few hideous Will and Fort defenses in that group. Nail 'em!

Best of all, many of the critters that use Fort and Will attacks have nasty control and ongoing damage effects attached to those attacks.
