  • Excerpts: Skullport -- Scoundrels of Skullport is the first expansion set for the Lords of Waterdeep board game.Undermountain is a vast and multileveled dungeon beneath Mount Waterdeep that once served the crazed wizard Halaster as a site for magical experiments. Now it is a labyrinthine maze with few refuges for weary adventurers.
  • Pre-register for Arena of War -- Introducing Arena of War, a Dungeons & Dragons mobile game, coming soon to iPhone, iPad and Android. Pre-register now to get the free Ultra Rare Power ‘Cause Fear’ for your character when the game launches!
  • Where are they now? With yesterday's news that Bruce Cordell has left WotC, I've put together a page listing various ex-WoTC employees and their current projects. Find your favourite (ex) D&D designer and check out what other awesome games they're making!
  • Talking of ex-WotC employees, Chris Pramas mentions that he "saw a guy assert that WotC designers are paid peanuts. They are the highest paid people in RPG design in fact. If they make peanuts, the rest of us make the crumbs at the bottom of a bag of chips." - though I'd hazard a guess that Kickstarters are presently changing that dynamic a bit for a few people.

[h=3]13th Age News[/h]
  • Two Gen Con 13th Age GMs can't make it to the con. If you can GM a demo game for Pelgrane Press at the con, email cat@pelgranepress.com.
  • The PDF-only version of 13th Age will hit one month after the hardcover (so September).

[h=3]RPG Spotlight: SHADOWRUN Continues![/h]
Our week-long RPG spotlight on SHADOWRUN has been going very well! Not only has lead designer Jason Hardy been chatting to folks and answering questions in the forums, various fans are discussing all aspects of the game. Feel free to join in and start a thread in our Spotlight Forum!

[h=3]RED AEGIS Kickstarter[/h]
Brothers Brian and Matt James head up a team including a load of people you've heard of: Ed Greenwood, Erik Scott de Bie, Stephen Radney-MacFarland, Miranda Horner, Claudio Pozas, and more! I've mentioned it before in this column, but the Kickstarter launches today and it's well worth another plug. The thing about it that attracts me (other than the talent) is the idea of playing through various generations of a family. Your individual characters die each session, but your family levels up. Also, it encourages that you use a different GM for each session!

There's a bunch of stuff already planned - rulebooks, digital projects, and an adventure path. So, yeah - take a look. It's certainly a change from the norm!

[h=3]GUMSHOW Timewatch[/h]
If you're a fan of GUMSHOE, or if you're a fan of time travel (but not if you're a fan of GUMSHOE but hate time travel; nor if you're a fan of time travel but hate GUMSHOE; but then if you're a fan of GUMSHOE and time travel, you'll likely explode!) you may know that Kevin Kulp is writing TIMEWATCH, a time travel game which uses the... errr... GUMSHOE rules. I may have said that already. It's time travel, it's easy to get confused.

Anyhow, if you're a fan of time travel and/or GUMSHOE, check out Kevin's playtest report thread. "Hitler reportedly developed a lot of his theories about Aryan racial superiority from the operas of Richard Wagner. If you remove Wagner from the picture, striking at Hitler obliquely, what happens? Better yet, imagine if the person assassinating the teenaged Wagner is actually a sympathetic character from a parallel timeline. In her timeline, Hitler's scientists got nuclear weapons from a rogue time traveler and used them to annihilate the west. She's come back to change her history. If the PCs successfully save Wagner in 1826, they'll still have to stop Nazi scientists from developing nukes in 1940—and doing so strands that time traveler in this history, instead of her own." and, I should have qualified that by saying that "peanuts" to one person is a good living to another. However, 50k in Renton, Washington is not a huge salary by any stretch, as the cost of living is 10% above the national average there. Now, if he were in Bentonville, Arkansas, where the cost of living is over 20% less, he would be doing pretty well for himself (other than being in Bentonville, AR). But, if he were in Scarsdale, NY, where the cost of living is more than 2.5 times the national average, he would be making peanuts.
