I clicked other, because I couldn't make selections.

Monday night game: my flat.

Thursday night game: a pub in Stratford (decidedly un-local).

Reading WizarDru's response reminded me that I started out 25 years ago gaming at a store. Well, it wasn't a gaming store at the time, it was a hobby store mostly focused on model railroads, but the owner had a small display of D&D stuff, and he let us use his back room to play. Game day was Saturday during the school year, and Tuesday during the summer. Kids from around town would ride their bikes to the store (eventually the plaza owners got sick of all the bikes chained to the columns out front and bought a couple of bike racks) to play D&D. We were all within about four or five years in age, most of use were pre-adolescents, so deodorant was not a factor, and being annoying was what we all were, so it didn't bother us. There was a diner-type restaurant next door, and a supermarket at the end of the plaza, so food and drinks were no problem.

We played there for several years, but eventually the owner stopped allowing gaming beause the younger kids coming up behind those of us who started there realized another store had lower prices for gaming material (they were the local wholesaler), and stopped buying anything from the store we played in. Most of the "veteran" players by then were in high school and had jobs and understood the need to support the local store, but there were no longer enough of us to sustain things; cars and boy/girlfriends were a higher priority for many of the original gamers, and only those of us who remained true geeks kept playing.

Maybe that's why I keep considering joining a game at my FLGS (until I actually walk in and see the people playing there)...nostalgia.

Sometimes I play at the house of one of the members of my group. My regular D&D group meets there.

Soemtimes I play here: www.gameparlor.com. I play virtually all of the B5 I play there, as well as a decent amount of role-playing. I was in a group for about two years that met there on Sundays.

Advice to those who play at local gaming stores: deoderant, fashion advice, Clearasil, and Atkins.

Ok, thats the funniest thing I've seen in weeks! :D Now to clean the Mountain Dew off my monitor.

Anyway, we ALWAYS game at my house, or the house of one of my friends. Playing in a public place or a game store seem like bad ideas for so many reasons (albeit different ones).

best place i ever gamed was at the local community college. Large room with 30-40 desks in it, white boards for spell lists, vending machines nearby, overhead projector for putting up maps and illustrations, no neighbors or parents to complain about the noise, no roommates or TV for distractions...priceless!!

Man I must be spoiled....

Hoog and I live in the same town. Our game store has been here forever. It was well established when I first moved here in 1987. The owner rarely has sales or discounts, but I always try to buy from him anyway. Why? There are 4 4'x8' tables in the back room. there are games there almost every night of the week. Various people run various things incuding but not limited to:

Any freaky RPG youve evr heard of.

Stalingrad. in 1/76th scale (ok, not the whole city, but 16'x8' of it)

boardgames.

fantasy baseball

CCG's

collectable miniatures games,

Warhammer & 40K

and much more than I can even remember.

Most club members can run games there regardless of the hour. want to play friday night through sunday night? Its cool. Well, It's cool with Dave anyway. I'm too old and creaky for that stuff anymore. Every year we put on a Con. Our own freaking Con! not bad for a town of under 12,000. If I want something he doesn't have he'll get it for me in a week. If a new release is coming out he thinks I'll be interested in, he'll ask me, and if I want it he'll make sure a copy is waiting for me on release day. I'm always greeted as a friend when I come in the shop. And the same goes for most of our 100+ members.

Yes, we have a few odiferous individuals, but I can only think of two. They really aren't around much though. I guess it's not possible for all FLGS to be this good, but that's just a crying shame. About the only time I run a game at my house is when it's a family game.

Anyway, sorry about the rant, but I just have trouble beleiving there aren't more places like this out there. And I don't know how much longer it will last. Dave & Sue (owners) are getting on, and they're the ones who make the place what it is. Must be late, I'm getting all emotional and incoherent.

Chris

At a friend's house abt 20 mins away from mine. It's pretty centrally located for all the players who live roughly 10-20 miles way in several different directions.
