Where does giant equipment come from?

DMH

First Post
They wear clothing and armor, use metal tools and weapons and, some, generally have many items that humans have. Where are the mines, the giant animals or plants for cloth, the logged lands that keep the giant economy going?

In the giant communities. The mountains too high for humans to settle, the hills amid the monsters too fearsome for humans to attack, but which present little threat to giants. And of course, the goblin and orc slaves.

ROFL!!!!!!!

Hmm.... I've been wanting my players to end up in "giant land" at some point... Might have to give the giants some really cool items that are too big for the characters to use. :D

Don't you mean a super-Giant Wal-Mart?

***ahem***
Can you imagine a "giant" mine? No wonder the world has earthquakes, right?

I would imagine they either mine themselves or have lesser races that they either 1) enslave to do the work or 2) have "agreements" with to harvest the items they need in exchange for ...something.

Since you asked us, where do YOU think they come from?

Look at each sub-race of giant and see how you think they would manage to gather their materials.
Basic giants:
Hill, Mountain, Fire, Frost, Storm. Am I missing anyone? But you see a progression in intellect and demeanor with each racial group.

Okay, okay, serious answer. Most of the giants depicted use tools that they can make themselves. Most have skins for clothing, and stone weapons. It's a neat question though when you look at the ones that carry swords and armor. The answer might be "Another plane where giants are the dominant race." Could also be "They use magic to resize human equipment."

There would be giant smiths, seamstresses, etc. They might go on "raiding expeditions" into the forest or fields of flax to steal material for clothing. I can even see a Common-speaking Giant making a deal with a farmer.

Giant: "Give me flax, or this loincloth gets holes in it."

Farmer: "It's already got holes in it. I can see your ... okay, take all you want. Just get that thing away from me!"

It also depends on intelligence and civilization level. I figure frost giants are civilized enough to have small villages (set up as well as cities, but with fewer individuals due to small population size) and mines. Their smithies could melt down weapons taken from foolish downed adventurers and eventually make huge axes from them. Many giants would have a few levels of commoner, expert or something else that makes them more productive. Like humans, most would have one or a few class levels.

Wow, am I the only dm that has giants working in the forges, humungous looms for weaving, giants with pens of sheep, etc??

This stuff is all imc.
