I think being a well-rounded person helps one be a better gamer in some sense. Though I'm not sure I would know. :)

the first time i read this post. images of the kid from willy wonka's chocolate factory flashed thru my head. the one who blows up like a berry. esp after seeing the pic of you from the goofy kid thread.

See...

You got me again.

I came in here to find out where all the circus freaks who bit the heads off of chickens went.

For a real geek, look up Thenigma / The Enigma / Slug - once a member of the Jim Rose Circus Sideshow.

Dextra: "So, did you like the breakfast I made?"
Slug: "Denise, you are asking the guy who eats maggots off the floor and washes them down with lightbulbs..."
Dextra: "Anyone else?"

But have you ever seen the eating of the light bulb...something I will never get over was seing what I guess was a real geek eating a light bulb. No chickens were harmed.

Well, at 39, each year I am getting more well rounded in the snozberry way.

As for the rest of it, I've always had VERY diverse interests.

When I wasn't gaming in high school, or writing the fantasy column for the school paper, I was surfing. Pretty much lived at the beach. Always tan. Very not geek crowd.

Now, I race offshore yachts (owned by other people, mind you!) Also very not geek crowd.

However, I did get kicked off my teeball team. The other guys threatened to beat me up if I didn't quit. They went to the championships after getting rid of me. The regular organized sports never worked for me.

I was in the Boy Scouts for a year, and only managed to earn merit badges in architecture and reading.

My friends and I fit this sport liking steriotype exactly. We're all in our early 20's and very active in sports, social life, and the "popular crowd". We got out start in our mid-twenties with adventures like "The Keep on the Borderlands", "The Temple of Elemental Evil", "White Plume Mountain", "Against the Giants", "The Tomb of Horrors", and the Return series. After playing in those we were hooked, and haven't stopped since. Funny thing is, we find it harder to find other gamers like us than the "steriotypical" gamer, though we'll happily play with others. :)

When I admit my geekiness to folks, they just laugh. They don't get it. I'm getting gray, I'm fit, mostly well adjusted, my employees respect me, I have good taste in art and finer things. Apparently, outside my friends and family, no one has seen me as a geek for years. Guess the fact that I spent most of the last twenty years in music or in "loss prevention" & "human resources" changed things. But I still think I'm a geek. I do follow the Packers, but please, don't stretch the limits of my sports knowledge.
