Our neighborhood experienced a power-outage last night due to a faulty transformer, plunging us into darkness for about four hours while the power company fixed the problem.
This was our first blackout since our baby arrived last year, and losing a toddler in the dark proved to be pretty amusing. I knew she was somewhere between me and the flashlights and candles, and I didn't want to step on her in the dark.
The funny thing is, you can rarely get a toddler to be quiet - until you want her to make noise, that is. My wife and I were tiptoeing around chasing a little shadow flitting about the living room.
Once we found her, without breaking anyone's toes or nose in the process, I found my flashlight and set out to light candles in the wall sconces. As I was looking around, I noticed the baby was acting strangely, moving back and forth like she was chasing something on the carpet. I thought perhaps a cricket got inside - she likes that, especially when I scoop them up and put them out on the patio - and then I realized, no, she was following the flashlight beam. I got a kick out of watching my little girl trying to pick up light.
So, got any amusing blackout stories to tell?
