Where you live: Gamer Paradise or Gamer Wasteland?

Pity me...in a wastland. I'm in NE Georgia and there is one extremely small comic store in town. Nearest gaming store is an hour away. The town I'm in is in the middle of the southeastern bible belt. I doubt few people in this town have even heard of roleplaying game..and those that did will say I'm playing in the ancient sewers beneath this crap hole.

Diaglo, RangerWickett, and anyone else in Georgia...never move to the NE part of the state(unless you move to Athens). Stay around Atlanta!

It's on High St., closer to campus than Soldiery.

Do you mean Gamestop?

It used to be on Morse Rd. Not sure if it is still there or not.

Is the Pixie any good? NEver been there obviously since I've never heard of it. Ya, it is Gamestop, I had forgotten about it till I read about it; wonder if it is still there.

Gamer Overkill: You go out to brunch at a little diner and the waitress starts chatting with you about whether she wants to upgrade to 3.5e.

Yes, we are eyeball-deep in geeks of all flavors out here.

I guess I fall Somewhere Inbetween...

I'm close enough to San Francisco and Berkeley that getting game material is pretty simple (besides Games Unlimited here in Concord does a pretty good job -- thanks Rich!). There are lots of cons in the area, most of which I avoid due to dislike of the scene, but for gamers in general it is a positive boon. OTOH, very little is actually within walking distance of me, so it is more like longish drives.

I have a good gaming crew -- when I was looking for people to play Ars Magica I had a rough time, but once I announced I was willing to take on D20 I quite literally had a waiting list. Ah, the advantages of ubiquity...

I'm getting Boston-envy being living in the MetroWest area! Bad enough we are forgotten by Boston tv news broadcasts (especially during winter storms), but we have to make do with only a few game stores! :)

That said, it's not that bad out here. I live pretty close to Spare Time Shop in Marlborough which has a reasonable gaming selection - I'm more partial to Pandemonium, but that was a heck of a lot easier to get to back when I had to go into Cambridge once a week for work.

I live in a gamer Wasteland. We have a couple of comic shops that dabble in d20, but to get anything worthwhile, we have to drive 1 hr. north to Las Cruces, a much smaller town than the mighty city of El Paso, then another hour home. Not to mention there are just not that many players I know about out here. The town is full of what I call closet gamers; individuals who game with 2 or 3 friends from high school and refuse to spread the fun around :( . My gaming group is 7 strong. We alternate out running everyonce in a while. but, mention gaming to people in this town and they want to grab the nearest priest and perform an exorcism on you.
On another thread, i described the time when a card store owner exclaimed in shock that D&D was the game of the Devil when I asked if he stocked it. all the while standing beneath his huge collection of SPawn toys and Magic TG cards. Man, this place is a horrible wasteland. May have to do something about it.... :]

Only been there once. It's smaller than the major Columbus stores. Was pretty crowded when I was there, mostly students. Employees seemed friendly enough & they are listed as staying open til 1.

Decent little place but didn't seem to offer anything more than the bigger stores. Would probably be a good place for students to find players.

As an aside....my God High St. sucks these days! What exactly are tOSU students supposed to do in their free time?!

Toronto is pretty sweet. Lots of groups. A great role-playing association. I've never had a hard time finding keen and knowledgeable players. Some really good shops downtown...maybe not a paradise, but really, really good.

Vermont is a haven for gamers...well maybe not.

With great surprise, gaming is strong in this small state. I belong to ARGGH
Arlington
Regional
Gaming
Group
Headquarters

which has about 15 members with a wide variety of tastes. The Burlington area has several groups also one of which I am unofficially a part of. For stores...None have survived over 24 months around here. For books, one needs to go to Albany NY, Pittsfield Mass, Burlington Vt or Keene NH. I do a lot of Amazon and other internet discount groups.

Only two EN Worlders live in Southern Vermont that I'm aware of. (tip of the hat to Eric and Bill).

Morgantown is Gamer Hell. Sure we got two stores but Gateway is about the only one people trust...

And the people that game here...well let's just say I'd rather chew my leg off first to escape these people...
