It's pretty much a wasteland.
We've got about two gaming stores, one of which is very good, the other I've never gone to, as it's farther away. There's gamers about, but most play wargames of some sort. Until last year, we'd never had any convention of any sort - that year, Richard Berg (nice fellow, GAMA hall of fame wargame designer) ran a little one in the backroom of a hotel mainly for his buddies... The only people other than his friends who showed up to play were myself and some players of mine I convinced to come along.
Though here's something I've always noticed - any B. Dalton Bookstore, no matter where it is, will always have a good selection of RPG stuff. I don't know why, but it does. I have never been wrong on this account. They're a subsidiary of Barnes & Noble, but generally have a somewhat better selection than the parent store.
