Where you live: Gamer Paradise or Gamer Wasteland?

It's pretty much a wasteland.

We've got about two gaming stores, one of which is very good, the other I've never gone to, as it's farther away. There's gamers about, but most play wargames of some sort. Until last year, we'd never had any convention of any sort - that year, Richard Berg (nice fellow, GAMA hall of fame wargame designer) ran a little one in the backroom of a hotel mainly for his buddies... The only people other than his friends who showed up to play were myself and some players of mine I convinced to come along.

Though here's something I've always noticed - any B. Dalton Bookstore, no matter where it is, will always have a good selection of RPG stuff. I don't know why, but it does. I have never been wrong on this account. They're a subsidiary of Barnes & Noble, but generally have a somewhat better selection than the parent store.

I officially live in the Bleak Gamer's Wasteland of Gehenna here.

No events here (except the Game Fair "Spiel", which is more for shopping than gaming), only one or two gaming stores near (I know only the one, and it's lousy - fortunaltely We have a very good online gaming store)

Very few gamers here, and of those we have a lot don't take it seriously at all - not even enough to care to attend to the session, or at least telling us in time that they won't. So a lot of sessions were cancelled 30 hours after they started. I was in half a dozen or so groups untill a couple of weeks ago, when I decided to make an end of it, now I'm in two who are more or less reliable (but even they aren't perfect at all), and I'm prepared to leave them as well if the situation should get as bad as it was in the other ones.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin - gamer paradise. I only shop at three of the local game stores, but there's at least 6, I think.

From Gygax to Noah, that state of Wisconsin has it all! (or, had it all, until GenCon moved ;) )

Hard to say.

I sort of think of my situation as a game fortress.

There is an FLGS, but most actual roleplayers I meet there have been sucked into clix and warhammer.

It took me a long time to find a steady group since I moved here, but since then, it has been consistently strong.

The gamer pop is thick enough that I have been known to overhear D&D-speak at the local Japanese steak house.

Las Cruces seems to be a gamer wasteland as well. A very insular gaming community as far as I can tell. I assume you go to COAS as that is the only place I can find any gaming material. They do have a lot of old & out of stock games.
Yep, got it in one. Are there any cons or clubs worth noting that you are aware of? man, you'd think something would hit this area. Hey, are there any ENworlders who live in the Juarez area? If so, where do you shop for games?

Pretty good in Alexandria, VA, as I got to try out 4 different games before settling into a group I like to learn 3.0 then 3.5. All sorts of games to be found, from hack-n-slash to dark intrigue to strategy wargaming. I could only ask that we didn't have to drive to games or the FLGS.

Gaming Wasteland

Corpus Christi, TX, we do have a decent gaming store. Too bad its overrun with toddlers who want to play their card games. And gaming conventions yeah right, shoot we just had the Velocity Games, and the city wants the promoters to pay for the toilet paper in the PUBLIC restrooms.

Side note, this city is really bringing me down, gotta leave, leave soon.

...so...any GOOD gamers in South Florida that want to play? Specifically in the Hollywood/Pembroke Pines area?

Doug

Been playing since 1st ed throu 3.5, and yes that many years :) In So FL as well, Miami Area; relocated a few years back & never found a group to game with. email me if interested. Thanks

I live in South West Ct. and all the gaming stores seem to be about 45 minutes to an hour away from me. There's three I usually go to Cave Comics (which is mostly comics but still has a good gaming selection) in Newtown and West Hartford offers War & Pieces and Dragon's Lair. Both are about the same in new product but Dragon's Lair has a "used" section that I like to riffle through (too bad it also has the major funk of "unwashed gamer"). There are more gaming stores farther away but I haven't gone to any of them yet.

As for cons, we've got two that I'm aware of. ConnCon is usually pretty big. And this weekend is RuneCon (in fact, I should be leaving now...). I haven't been to this one yet so I have no idea what it's going to be like.

I'm out the door.

Is it just me or is most of Texas a gaming wasteland. Most of the post from this little corner of hell (and I say this lovingly) is a wasteland. With the notable exeption of Austin, and everyone that lives in Texas knows Austin is different (thats not bad).

What about you living in Dallas or S.A., I might (stress might) be moving to these places for a job, any life in those cities.
