Where'd Everybody Go?

So, first of all, our elf sorcerer stops playing because he's met someone from Paducah, KY and wants to devote his weekends to her. Okay, we've still got three players and I'm the DM. We can work on that.

So we're in the middle of White Plume Mountain, and I'm looking forward to getting on with it next week before having to break for the holidays. In the meantime we're still getting together and hanging out.

Then the ranger and the half-elf rogue/ranger/deepwood sniper decide that they want to get out of RPGs altogether. Instead, they wish to focus on their youth group at school and maybe go on a mission to China. (Actually, they said they were considering mission work and then she mentioned they were learning Chinese, so I made a brilliant deduction).

Well, okay, that's fine, that's their decision, I've still got ... ONE PLAYER?!!!!1!!one!

Well, er, um, okay, we can play, er, Go Fish? Oh, forget it.

I think he is just looking for some sympathy. I hear you. My group fell apart over two years ago. I haven’t played since.

Although there is light at the end of the tunnel, for me at least. I got a call from someone that spotted my post in Gamers seeking Gamers. I hope to start with a new group in the next few weeks.

In the mean time, lounge by the pool and catch some rays.

Actually, I'm looking for someone to point and laugh at me [/sarcasm].

Yeah, I'm looking for a small bit of sympathy; not much, I understand how these things happen and it's not like we don't hang out and play video and board games instead.

But.

I'm not ready to "give up" RPGs and I'm facing finding a new group as soon as my fiancee feels like it (she's taking the opportunity for a break, and is grateful).

Hey Airwolf! Long time no see!

Whiner Knight --

Post in Gamers seeking Gamers.

Go to local conventions and gamedays.

Participate in play-by-post RPGs as a way to not only get your gaming fix, but to meet people.

Go to Local Game Stores and chat with regulars to see if any opportunities emerge.

In short, do what people do when they are looking for a date -- go where the prospects are. :D

(Some people would equate going to conventions like going to seedy bars when looking for a date, but I'll leave the comparisons out of it.) ;)

Our group has 8 players and half a dozen that are interested in joining our game, most from posting online and at the game stores.

I've had many fun campaigns with just me and my wife. It gives me a chance to play to one person's tastes, have active DM characters to run along with the player and fudge whenever the story needs it (there aren't any other players to complain).

Having multiple players is definately a different feel and is fun for its own reasons, but having only one player doesn't have to mean that you can't play...

That's why I keep players on retainer. I got seven (techincally) in my campaign though only six play now (one's on sebatical due to a new baby). I have three people whom I talk to regularlly who want into the game but I have no intention on dm'n eight people. However I keep them abreast and point them to the website (finally added a blog yesterday). They visit weekly. Two of the players I have now I drew from my retainer pool after one player suddenly moved out of state and another had family duties that took presidence.

You know what this means, of course. It's time to start running a solo campaign just for the one player. Heavy roleplaying, with romantic overtones. Lots of acting out the interesting scenes.
