D&D 5E Where's the 5E boxed set?

As a cheapskate gamer, I was hoping once the DMG was released that a boxed (sleeved?) set would soon follow, one that might have a lower price than buying all 3 individually for $90+ on Amazon. (Yes, I was spoiled by getting my 4E boxed set for $65 on Amazon)

I had the same plan, but after skimming the DMG, and having had a decent look at the PHB and MM prior to that, I liked enough of what I saw to buy in without waiting for a possible box set.

Sure, try next summer or autumn.

It seems like they'd only be leaving money on the table if they did this now with all the books relatively new and everyone buying them as singles.

The only successful sleeved book sets that D&D has seen were for 3.5 and 4E. Both times the 3 core books saw simultaneous release, and the sleeved set was released at the same time for the same price as the 3 books combined (actually for 10 cents more).

Yep, as thalmin said, the 4e set actually had an RRP of 10 cents higher than the three books bought separately.

Of course, Amazon offered a significant discount on the set, but then Amazon (US) has been offering very good discounts on the three books individually this time out - you can currently get the three for a combined cost of $97.67 (vs an RRP of $149.85). It's hard to imagine that they'd offer a better deal on a boxed set, even if one were available.

In my case, since i knew they were coming last year, i asked family and friends for gift cards to amazon/barnes&noble since last december, and just for christmas picked up the DMG last thanks to that. $10 gift cards here and there can go a long way! :)
