D&D 5E Which 5e Should I Propose to My Group? [Updated]

My Uninformed opinion is that pick the one you feel will best support what you want to run. 2014 is a known quantity and if you plan on running modules, it's more than adequate. Level Up is good if you want a crunchy Pathfinder-y feel to 5e and don't mind doing a lot of prep work to convert and replace modules or make your own. TotV is basically an alt version of 2024: close enough that everything works, different enough that it doesn't work perfectly. A good compromise between 14 and LU.

I don't see LU as bring as work intensive as you say. How much converting of existing 5e modules do you really think you have to do? I also disagree that LU feels like Pathfinder. It certainly doesn't to me.

Level Up is a crunchier version of 5e. It uses the same game mechanics as 5e does, but with some needed fixes.

Yes. Crunchier like Pathfinder is crunchier. I wasn't disputing that it's still 5e, but it's 5e for people who want 5e to feel more Pathfinder-y.

Level Up doesn't even come near the level of complexity found in either 1st or 2nd edition Pathfinder. And it certainly doesn't look like Pathfinder in terms of game mechanics.

More complex than 5e, less complex than PF2. Complexity is a Goldilocks thing. For some of us, Level Up is just right.

Yeah, and no problem. For me, Shadowdark is the objectively correct level.

Why is the go-to crunchy game Pathfinder? It really feels quite different from LU, especially PF 2e. That game really does not work for me.
