It would be interesting to include a market value for the animal as well, that way hunters in the party who make a livlihood selling skins/shells and so forth would give the GM a instant reference should one of his players go to town for such.

Funny you should mention it, V. I have a freebie for all the AA with summoning tables, market values for some (not all) for hides and equipment as well.

I'm re-designing my website right now, and it should be on there once thats going.

My first thought to the question "which animals" is all of them. That might seem a little silly but, at least from one perspective, you could do an entire book based on animals - similar to the monstrous manual.

The trouble is that animals really aren't that dangerous, and, how many variations on a 1 hit dice creature are going to be intresting? From a player perspective, after about 5th level, there are few animals that could slow them down.

I think this is a situation where you could develope new rules to create a wider variety between otherwise similar animals. Modifiers for the specific environments they are adapted for - for example. You could start focusing on the value of the animal or some function it performs rather than its strength as a combatant.

Well, Mark,

Essentially, Animal Archives is a "big book" done in chunks divided currently into continents and themes.

I believe this is where suppliments like the Advanced Bestay from Green Ronin & the templates from Atlas Games Fantasy Bestiary come in swimmingly. I also have a few animal templates I will release soon as well. The one problem I see with adding a template into an animal is this: It more often than not changes its type to something other than animal.
 

So, any takers for the list for North American Animals?

I need 10. as I stated previously, I DO have a current list, but if I see several of "I want this"! I'm flexible.
 

Grey fox- the only arborial canid (semi at that).

Muskellunge or White Sturgeon- musn't forget fish.

Red Tailed Hawk or Buzzard (Turkey Vulture)- very common raptors.

Collared Peccary.

Whitetailed or Mule Deer.

Moose or Elk.

Black Panther- even if it is almost extinct. :(

Black Bear or Grizzly.

Edit:

Mountain Goat or Mountain Sheep (rather see the former since the latter gets all the glory).

And when you get around to Europe, you might want to look up the Wels Catfish and Chamoi (I think I spelled that wrong- it is a mountain goat like animal).

The mule deer gets its name from its keen, independently moving, mule shaped ears. These creatures are quick, jittery animals that range between 150lbs. to around 400lbs. in weight.

They are prized as food, a source of hide, and for their antlers by hunters and trophy collectors. The white tail deer receives its name from its white tail, which is normally seen as the deer is running off and away from the hunter’s range.

The wapiti, sometimes known as an elk (a name shared with the moose), is a relative to whitetail deer. This creature weighs a bit more than most deer, however, and is a hardy creature. As with mule and whitetail deer, only the adult male elks have antlers and should be considered combatants (and thus having the stats above).

Resource Notes: The wapiti elk is a highly valued source of meat, hide, and trophies for antlers. The wapiti’s carcass tends to provide between 100lbs. to 250lbs. of meat while its hide is sold for an average price of 7sp on the open market.

Combat: While elk also tend to prefer flight over fight these creatures are a bit more aggressive than whitetail and mule deer.

Skills: Wapiti have keen senses, giving them a +3 to Listen and Spot checks.
