Halsin and Jaheria seem most likely to show up somewhere on an agenda and ask the party for assistance. You can slot them in almost anywhere and it wouldn't cause much mental dissonance.

Karlach is in third place, being friendly enough to chat up the party on her own initiative, but her appearance would be a little more odd than the meddling druids.
Questgiver is the most likely role for famous NPC cameos, but the other one is villain. Evil path Astarion could make an interesting foe, or even Chosen of Shar Shadowheart. Not to mention "stop evil mage Gale assembling the Crown of Karsus".

If Wyll became Archduke of Baldur's Gate, he could make an appearance that way.

I've used Wylls dad. Wulbren's got a mention he may be a villain.

I was thinking for a new group within my 3.5e Greyhawk campaigns, they could maybe meet a 1st level untadpoled Karlach when people are lining up to be asked questions to enter the city where it will start.

Karlach, being a Tiefling from Baldur’s Gate by way of Avernus, will only speak Sword Coast Common and Infernal. And being a barbarian, she’s illiterate.

One of PC’s - a CG elf cleric of Corellon - has Comprehend Languages (and the player’s first introduction to D&D was BG3) so he might try to help. Which would not be easy but could be fun.

Most likely I won’t actually do it.

Why would she be illiterate? She grew up in Baldur's Gate and would have hand the same basic education as other Baldurian children. Her class has nothing to do with it.

Illiterate barbarian is a dumb idea. Just been rereading REH, and Conan can read several different languages, including ancient and obscure ones.

You are allowed to ignore stupid rules you know. Karlech is not illiterate. She reads her parents gravestone for a start.
You're allowed not to call other people and editions stupid, and to view a character's weaknesses as a role-playing opportunity.

BG3 is in 5e (mostly) - different rules than 3.5e and AD&D. And, at least when I got to Act 3, she was 10th level. That's a lot of Skill Points in 3.5e, and it only takes 2 Skill Points to become literate in 3x. Maybe an NWP in 2e.
