D&D 5E Which character in dnd should be the example of the warlord?

Like if you ever wrote the 5e equivelent of the minatures handbook or heroes of battle, whom would be the imperfect narrator of the book?

Just from Forgotten realms
Azoun IV?
Yaman Kahan?
Bane? :p

There were very few novels published during the 4e period, and when novel characters have a class, it's going to be one that was in the version of D&D that was current at the time of publication. Same with computer games.

The first character that pops into my head is Tanis Half-Elven from Dragonlance. Obviously, "warlord" as a concept didn't exist in 1e, but he's a basic fighter whose identity is rooted in being the "leader" rather than his martial prowess.
Seconded. He was the first to pop into my head, too.

My first instinct is to go with The Great Kahan, but as he is a pastiche of Genghis Khan you may run into problems of cliche (both the Conan movie and Game of Thrones did).

Bane is hillarious but Im not sure a tyrant as lead voice would be a good choice unless youre playing it for humour.

Azoun is a bit vanilla really but would hit the Courtly Nobleman Warlord if thats what youre selling.

Maybe all three? Have multiple voices....
