As I said in the other poll, I don't think the classes are unbalanced. I will say this much, though:

There are classes that are WEAK when I play them. I am a crappy rogue player. I'm just not that sneaky, nor do I like stealing things. I have a friend who sucks at playing a barbarian because they are intelligent themselves and thus don't think like a barbarian typically would - nor fight like one would. I think players can (and do) make classes weak because the class is not suited for their playing style. But you mix the right player with the right class and they are a combination that rocks - regardless of the class!

Bard and monk. I think this is mostly, because the system does not really reward jack-of-all-trades (or jack-of-no-trades in the case of the monk :p) type characters.

Of course, in the right campaign, any class can be great (i.e. bard in a social campaign).

I voted bard and monk - Exactly what is it they do? A resounding "meh" to both classes.

Sorcerers are not underpowered. I've played and seen played several sorcerers and they can definitely hold their own.
 

Fighter, monk, and paladin.

The first two are self-evident IMO, and I just added the pally cause I've never found a good use for them. Self-righteous clerics do everything they do but a lot better. I prolly should have added ranger and sorcerer to the list, but I couldn't have everyone but the C.o.D on the list. ;)

As for people voting bard....I'm sad you haven't seen one played effectively (and that doesn't mean in a particular kind of campaign).

Edit: And the two votes for druid...comedy, right?
 


Monk, and Bard.

Monk is a wonderful targetted Mage/Sorcerer eater, if you are using a Vow of Poverty. Without that, they soak up the majority of the group's healing/defensive magics. And they still don't hit all that hard unless someone turns them into an Archon or Troll or some such. Being the fellow that gets into position to let the Thief flank/sneak attack, over and over.. well, it loses its pizzazz after a while.

Bards are a prime candidate to be run as an NPC to dispense wisdom and sing, while the party gets the benefits. Of all the classes that I've heard folks say, "Not going to play one of those, they're boring and don't get to *do* anything" about, Bard is right up with Cleric - and they stop saying that to Clerics around 13th level when the neat 7th level Cleric spells come out.
 

I say Monk. Their abilitys rely on too many stats (Wis. Dex. and Str. to be specific) Others only rely on one or two, so it is reletivly eazy to maximize their stat's usefulness. The monk has so many, that they never get modifiers high enough to use stats to their advantage.
 

Sorcerer?

I'm suprised at the high number of votes for Sorcerer; I view it as one of the strongest classes at high levels - quite possibly the strongest.
 

Bard and Monk.

We have a saying in our playing group of 6 players - Bards and Monks make a great 7th character in a 6 character party.

I think Bards are incredibly useful, but lacklustre in what they can do (essentially buff the party with Bardic Music. However, roleplaying can be extremely strong, and the Bardic Knowledge can be really powerful.

I love monks, but difficult to make a useful contribution. Without a tame DM to throw you a Monk's Belt and an Amulet of Mighty Fists, you will only ever be a bit player in the combats. Even grappling can be an exercise in frustration. If you don't do the traps thing (eg wilderness adventures) then you could perhaps do away with a Rogue as the scout and substitute a Monk.

And I find it difficult to comprehend that people think the Paladin is weak! Core rules only Spirited Charge with Smite Evil is nothing short of devastating! And great saves are another point in their favour.

And while Sorcerors might be boring, the ability to cast spells round after round after round cannot be ignored - particularly at lower levels.

1) It's difficult to be a paladin riding inside. 2) What are you going to do against the second bad guy of the day?
