Currently:
Archer Elf Bard w/wand of Cure Light Wounds -- d8.

Previously:
Spellcaster with penchant for Scorching Ray and Fireball -- d6.

Wishlist:
Rogue setting caltrops under the rat bastard DM chair -- d4. ;)

::Kaze (is joking about that last one)

D6 here too. My current character is a halfling rogue/fighter whose main weapon is a Small battleaxe, so I'm doing d6+mods for damage, plus a few more d6es when I get a sneak attack in. My other main weapon is a Small composite longbow, again with d6 base damage.

As a DM: the d6, never can have enough NPCs to throw at the players.

As a player: the d6, seem to need a new character way too often.

Anyone else see a pattern here?

The d6 wins by a narrow margin --- thanks to fireballs and bonus sneak attack damage in d20, and a heap of d6's and d12's used in Deadlands.

Whether it's spells, sneak attacks, turning undead, or creating characters I have to go with the d6. After that the d4 & d8 would probably tie, followed by the d10. Trailing far, far behind...the dusty d12.

d8. My last two characters both used d8s for damage and hit dice. I was actually getting tired of d8s, so my current character is a fighter with a greataxe. Unfotunately his backup weapon is a heavy mace, so I'm still not entirely free of the d8s.

Ranger with longsword, longbow, spear, and has just acquired a heavy mace: I really have no reason to pick up anything other than d8. My other D&D character is a fighter with longsword and light crossbow.

Alternity: d4 for a lot of handguns, light melee weapons and not-highly-modified skill checks.

Living Death: d6 for firearms.
