I'm not sure it couldn't be done now. First, did the laws change so much, or are people just wary of possibly stepping over-the-line now (or was it a big no-no that everyone didn't worry about).
Secondly, they could send the word out to fantasy publishers that they'd be willing to do these articles for fantasy series. It's publicity and I'm sure some companies would jump at the chance. The real question here is how much work it would require for it to happen.
